It's put out by this group.

http://www.rbc.org/odb/odb.shtml

Now, is there any legitimate reason for these booklets to be placed in a rack in a courthouse next to brochures on how to file a small claims action, how to file for a Protection From Abuse Order, and where to file a dog klicense application?

1. Just Remove Them
I find those sorts of things in all sorts of places.

I just remove them.

And then I either show them to the person in charge of the place where I cound them, or I throw them away.

Simple.

21. Took the words out of my mouth
Someone put them there who was not authorized to do so. What's going to happen if one removes and recycles them? Nada.

2. Nope. No reason at all. I'll bet that even a mild complaint would get them removed.

4. That's my feeling too.
It's a magistrate's court and the magistrate is an elected nonlawyer. She's also an idiot.

I don't have any real objection to the booklets but they really don't belong there, any more than a crucifix does.

20. I don't see anything wrong with that. No one is forcing
you to pick one up or even look at it. It's not gonna reach out arms and grab you.

11. Some fundie just shoved them in there
hoping no one would notice and that the proselytizing would ensue.

Just take them and trash them. I would.

The courthouse is no place for religious propaganda.

8. I doubt it was any government official who even put them there...
just someone who hoped they'd be picked up by people passing by.

5. I wouldn't be surprised if someone put them there illicitly. I'd bring one to the closest desk or
window there at the courthouse and make a nice comment about church and state. If they're not removed, then go to the county commissioner, county administrator, or media.

7. That is about as clear a violation of separation of church and state as you
will ever see. Throw them out. The courthouse staff will get in EXTRA trouble if they try to stop you.

9. My local grade school has religious services (Baptist)in the auditorium
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 04:01 PM by panader0
It irks me. I'm not sure if they pay or not, but I'll bet they wouldn't rent for a Buddhist or Islamic service.
On edit: I just called the school and asked, and there is no fee.

12. Your taxes support that school including utilities and maintenance
so yes, there needs to be a fee to open it on Sundays.

If they pay for the space and students aren't required to attend, I have no problem with it.

14. Probably not authorized to be there

Either anyone is free to put literature there, which is fine so long as anyone may do so, or it is being put there on the sly.

16. Here's What You Should Do With Them
Take the entire stack, and methodically go around to each and every restroom in the courthouse, leaving one copy conspicuously in all the toilets and urinals.

People have every right to distribute literature on the courthouse steps or leave pamphlets in a rack. You have just as much right to remove them and do whatever you like with them.

18. That's True
Somebody would have to clean that up, and that's not fair. I hadn't thought of that. I'm the type of person that doesn't just want to trash them, though. I would definitely prefer something that would trash them AND make a statement at the same time. Because who's to say that the person who put them there doesn't come back the next day, see that they're all gone, doesn't know they were trashed, assume that SO MANY people were interested that they took them all, and then proceed to KEEP coming back every few day with more and more pamphlets? Whenever possible I like to try to make a statement, as opposed to just removing offensive propaganda.

19. Based in Grand Rapids. Mom and pop Jesus scam.
I wonder if there's an ordinance against putting advertising in a rack for public legal documents?

A stiff fine makes up for a lot of holy water sales.
