So...are motivational speaking seminars just right-wing bullshit?
Reason I ask is that there's another one of these big motivational seminars coming to Orlando. Most of the highlighted speakers are conservative rethugs - Guliani, Colin Powell, Laura Bush, Zig Ziglar, Terry Bradshaw, and a few others. I've never attended any of these functions, never really understood the purpose behind them. Pay money to hear some conservative asshole tell me how I can pull myself up by my bootstraps, how success and riches can be mine if only I apply myself, etc? It does sound rather much like rethug brainwashing to me.

1. Most seem to be based on right-wing "magical thinking"
Check out Ehrenreich's "Bait and Switch" for a pretty good coverage of them.

2. What could Laura Bush possibly
say that would motivate me to do anything. I really don't have all that much against the woman but motivating she's not.

Guiliani couldn't even motivate people to vote for him in the primaries.

3. These are for people in the sales industries
to encourage them to slog through sales resistance. Most of them are pro-business, and that often translates to pro-GOP. It would be hard for them to feel motivated by Ralph Nader.
