White House lashes out at Glenn Beck, Fox News ‘lies’
http://rawstory.com/2009/09/white-house-glenn-beck-lies/

By Daniel Tencer
Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 -- 4:30 pm

In another sign that the Obama administration is increasingly willing to take on its media critics directly, the White House blog has published a comparison of Fox News “rhetoric” versus “reality” on the issue of President Obama’s support for Chicago’s Olympic bid.

The statement went so far as to use the expression “Fox lies.”

“Last night Fox News continued its disregard for the facts in an attempt to smear the Administration’s efforts to win the Olympics for the United States,” the White House blog entry begins. “In the past, hosting the Olympics has been a source of pride and unity for the country, but once again Fox News’ Glenn Beck program has shown that nothing is worthy of respect if it can be used as part of a partisan attack to boost ratings.”

25. Citizenship? I think that he is still an illegal. Buying a citizenship from Newt
Gingrich does not make it so.

Did he take the test? The pledge?

2. Is there TV footage of them saying this?
Or is this only available in the form of interent text?

I hate to nit pick, but internet "statements" or "releases" are not a really a sign of "taking on its media critics directly."

"Directly" would be a top DEM official going on the Beck show, then calling him a liar to his face, for instance.

They need to go on TV and say this stuff if they really want the conversation of conservative media bias to pick up steam.

3. I agree. This has all the *oomph* of a "sternly-worded letter" from Congress
...and we all know how much oomph those had.

4. TV directly makes sense to me. Beck's show, not so much.
I don't see any reason why administration officials (or any other sentient life forms) should dignify Beck's doggie-doo show -- or the Fox hate channel in general, for that matter.

5. I dont disagree- I was just giving you a TRUE example of what "direct" confrontation would look like
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 05:52 PM by Dr Fate
But you are right- there are many, many MANY ways for DEMS to get these statements on TV, if they really want "direct" confrontation.

Do they?

12. -1. That would actually be "direct" confrontation. How about saying this on another TV show then?
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 06:08 PM by Dr Fate
You think that internet text is "direct?"

I dont. I'd like to hear some top DEMS taking this "directly" to the airwaves, to their faces.

11. Fair enough-So what show will they go on with these statements?
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 06:09 PM by Dr Fate
Or is this just more of the same "fighting" interent text?

The article refers to DIRECT confrontation-I'd truly love to see such a thing on this issue.

BTW, bringing up Beck at all seems to lend him credibility by your logic.

14. Would Beck book a "top Dem strategist" and promise not to cut his/her mike while
they said their piece?

Doubtful. And there is no use going on a program simply to have your mike cut and then let the lying host follow up with uninterrupted ridicule.

15. Fine- then they can say it on ANOTHER TV show.
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 06:16 PM by Dr Fate
I guess Wolf Blitzer or Chris Mathews would cut their mics too?

I was just giving an example of what actual DIRECT confrontation might look like.

Too many times I've seen DEMS "release" various "statements" that are really meant for bloggers eyes only. Then other bloggers or message board DEMS point to these "releases" as "examples of DEMS fighting for us."

Not buying it any longer.

If they want "direct" confrontation with TV media, then they need to go on TV.

16. Why do you think we see this on Rachel's show, in particular, and not on Wolf's or Tweety's??
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 06:16 PM by rvablue
It's the bookers.

Those people don't get booked.

Edit to add: You might check out Joy Behar's new show on HLN at 9 p.m. Last night she had on Janeane Garofaelo (sorry on the spelling) to debate Bay Buchanan. It was quite the smackdown.

17. Which Obama official is claiming that Wolf & Tweety are refusing them air time?
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 06:32 PM by Dr Fate
If Top Obama officials are being banned from TV, then why have they not said so? Seems like the public should know about this. Is this fact available on the WH Website, for instance?

Besides, I've seen top DEMS booked on CNN and on Matthews thousands of times, with my own eyes- and I've never seen them get their mics cut by either Wolf or Chris. Surely they could get at least a few points in, even if you were right.

You cant tell me that Wolf or Chris and many other hosts would REFUSE to have on Rahm, Gibbs, etc. Not buying it.

Even if you are right, that means that we can at least expect to see a top DEM on Rachel following up on this statement by itemizing lies told by Beck & Fox news, right?

10. I saw a documentary "Outfoxed" just last night.
They interviewed former Fox employees, and it showed a few of Fox's internal talking points memos. It was actually shocking. I mean, I already knew that FOX "news" was a 24 hour GOP commercial, but I didn't know it was this bad.

It's a few years old, but I recommend people to watch it. I borrowed it from the library.

Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 07:09 PM by Dr Fate
A blog post or your email may not even get opened or read, much less get "looked into."

Besides,I suggested that swing voters should see this "confrontation", not just Beck viewers.

We are getting all excited about some fairly obscure blog text- this is not a fight or a "lashing" or a "direct" confrontation at all.

They respect NOTHING if it doesn't further their little "agenda" of discrediting Obama.

with their attacks and propaganda? Whatever the reason is, I agree. It's about time FNC got called out on their constant lies.
