‘Sticky’ the duct-taped cat is with her new family
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 06:51 PM by RamboLiberal
'Sticky' has found a family.

The cat that became a media sensation after being found body-wrapped in duct tape joined its new adoptive family yesterday, according to the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

This family's request came soon after the news broke Sept. 22 about a cat found bound from neck to toes in a North Philadelphia yard, Williamson said.

-----

The family wishes to remain anonymous, and Williamson didn't know where they live or whether they have children or other pets.

She was also waiting word on whether the name "Sticky" would stick.

Luciani says Sticky has created a spike in adoptions. She says the SPCA has seen 58 cat adoptions in the week that Sticky has been in the headlines, versus to just 15 the same week last year:

"A lot of people called and asked about Sticky, and we certainly did suggest to them that they come here to the shelter at Erie Avenue and Hunting Park, and a lot of them came and adopted wonderful new best friends."

7. I'd sentence to a supervised year of poop cleanup
at the humane society. Does Philly have police horses? Cause if they do I'd send him down there as well to muck out stalls.

16. Everybody else looks at that first pic and says "ZOMG HOW AWFUL!!!" -
I look at and start thinking, ok, self, what to do FIRST? Grab the torb and ace and ketamine and valium. Poke cat. Grab the teflon-coated scissors and the electric clippers and.........blah blah blah.......

17. My first thoughts were
along the same lines. How do you even begin removing duct tape from all that fur, and without hurting her? They sedated her, and I read something about patches of missing fur so I guess they had to cut it in some spots.

I would have probably tried peanut butter first. I did that once to remove a giant wad of bubble gum from my daughter's eyebrow and eyelashes. It worked beautifully. I've never had the need to try it on duct tape, however.

20. Peanut butter would take too long and make too big of a mess,
requiring that the cat be bathed while severly stressed. And she was under anesthesia, so speed was important.

Clippers and a good steady pull, and scissors.........

11. Sticky ended up helping other cats! A great ending.
Well, a GREAT ending would be finding who did this to the poor little guy.

I've never understood why people would want to harm pets.

21. Probably will only get a handslap
Animal cruelty laws are rarely enforced to the punishment limits available unfortunately.

As for me, I'd like to see this jerk get the max, and then some. Why would ANYONE do that to a helpless animal? Did he think it was cute?

25. Very true...they are plea-bargained down...
...the only good thing is all the publicity about this which makes people more aware.

26. Awareness
Yes, you're right, in that the only good thing about stories such as this one IS making the general public more aware of this sort of behavior.

We are seeing, I believe, a better understanding of the link between cruelty to animals and eventual cruelty to people. Hopefully that fact will eventually lead to greater punishment for crimes against helpless animals.

27. Agreed...the connection between animal and human cruelty is a relatively
new issue...can only get better and be made more aware.

very odd thing to do, wonder why he did.

On edit, I found this, still does not excuse this.
"Davis reportedly lost both his father and a brother to murders in recent years." http://www.ohmidog.com/2009/09/

And another
http://www.myfoxaustin.com/dpp/news/dpgo_092709_Arrest_Made_In_Duct_Taped_Cat_Case_3691561
"Humane Law Enforcement Officers tell Fox 29 News that Davis admitted to taping the cat because he was "annoyed." He said that he saw the cat in his backyard and he didn't know what came over him.

Officers also say Davis left the duct-taped cat in his yard for several hours but because it was screaming so much, he dumped the cat across the walkway."
