Great story on Helen Thomas: "Mentors and Inspirations," good insight on where she comes from

(Where she comes from professionally, that is)

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/33190339#33190339

You can hear her in her own words, way more than you usually get to hear in the short bits normally shown.

"What do I think? I think every president could have done better"

And watch Bush Lite squirm looking for words! Worth the watch for that alone!

**on edit: I couldn't find a youtube version of this, so I couldn't post it on the "videos" board.

1. American hero.
There will never be another Helen Thomas.

2. I fear you may be right
Seeing what "journalism" has become these days, where money and ratings trump research and truth, I doubt that anyone
inspired by Helen could ever get to be a top echelon journalist. No one is looking for someone like Helen to work for
them any more.

How sad is THAT?

7. The really sad part?
You know, just in case we're not already sad enough, most Americans won't have any idea what they've lost.

10. True enough.
Her style of journalism is already a fading memory. Presidents might breath a sigh of relief, but it's the nation's loss.

4. My pleasure! I don't get American TV here.
But a friend who knew Helen was a good friend of mine sent me the link. It was such a well-done story, I though it
was worth posting here. Watching Bush Lite get so tongue-tied by her question, he couldn't get 2 words in a row out
(not 2 words in intelligible English anyway) was worth the price of admission alone!

8. Bush really came out like the staggering idiot he always was.
No American TV here except for CNN (which is broken on my satellite dish for now, anyway ... no big loss, though.) I remember the other story you posted about Helen Thomas. Knowing her over a few decades, it's really sad to see where US journalism is heading to: Snippets of infotainment, along with flash bars of 'breaking' 4-letter news, so to speak, and there's another window open on something else. 24/7 CGI derivates, and a - gasp - hologram on Wolf Blitzer's show (the one he was waiting for to pop up on 'Jeopardy.')

I do fear, to0, that she'll be the last of her kind. And that is sad.

5. Thanks
Wish there were more of her kind instead of the pompous windbags.

11. Comparing her to windbags like Blitzer
That's like comparing the air in Rocky Mountain National Park to what comes out of a Mack truck's exhaust pipe.

9. Bush Lite is Barack Obama's immediate predecessor
There was another link to a British site: http://video.aol.co.uk/video-detail/today-show-helen-thomas-impact-on-ann-curry/1675644586

but this just takes you back to the original msnbc site. It may not work, but give it a try. YOu man need some kind of software
to play it, I don't know.
