Today's Rush Limbaugh prediction (10-9-09)
When Chicago lost its Olympics bid, Rush was on the air in hours saying this was the world's way of slapping Obama in the face because he was all talk, or some such facile nonsense from the Spewmaster.

So now Obama's gotten the Nobel Prize, I'm predicting Limbaugh's reaction will be to say this was the world's evil liberal elite's way of punishing Limbaugh himself for laughing at Obama "failing" to bring home the Olympics. At some point in his idiotic diatribe, expect Limbaugh to imply, or even just outright say, that Obama was lobbying or begging for the prize.

See, it's not that hard to figure out the goofball--just think through the most superficial spin on the whole matter, then add in a touch of emotional projection from the naughty child who never won his father's approval, and -- wallah! -- you have the Rush take on the news.

1. WHY do people here get so worked up about Limbaugh?
He's an entertainer, nothing more.

He plays to his audience's lack of reason because it's financially advantageous for him to do so.

So what?

2. It's upsetting cause so many people take his word as truth....
I loved what Colbert said last nite about Rushie..."and sometime snowman model".

6. That's a great argument for mandatory critical thinking classes in school...
...but his rants are no more evil than Billy Mays' were. They're both examples of using people's ignorance tom sell them things they don't need.

10. Except
I don't recall Katie Couric ever interviewing Billy Mays or "serious" political commentators opining that the Hercules Hook was the solution to some knotty foreign or domestic policy problem. I do remember Rush Limbaugh being Ms. Couric's first interview when she took over the CBS Evening News, and no shortage of talk show chuckleheads putting forth Rush Limbaugh talking points as if they were deserving of serious consideration in a discussion.

It's the legitimacy that's been bestowed on this lunatic that deserves watching. Otherwise, one hears all kinds of nutty things up for consideration, and no idea where they might have come from.

21. But it all stems from the same place. Our President is elected by people who buy the "Slap-Chop".
(Yes, I know that Vince Shobe pimps the Slap-Chop. I just like the example)

The same people who buy these products because they lack the ability to critically think also elect the people who run our country...and they listen to the radio.

The issue isn't the entertainers (or politicians), it's US. WE are the people who cause this.

3. He's even admitted so.
I saw a clip on NBC this morning where he said that everything he says is planned in order for him to make the most money possible. He knows what gets his base riled up and he plays them like a fiddle. I was surprised to hear him admit it, but it makes him no less disgusting.

I can tell you that it was on The Today Show and the full interview will be played on Monday. Let me see if I can find a clip.

19. Hmmmm....
He actually sounds like he's being facetious. I'm going to wait for the full thing on Monday just to make sure it isn't taken out of context.

20. Facetious, are you serious?
I can guarantee you that he wasn't. I saw more of the video that they showed on the Today Show. He was as serious as sin. Limbaugh wouldn't let his words be taken out of context in a major television interview, he doesn't do them very often.

26. From the preview on that link...
it seems like he is going to say more before they cut out. I'm just having a hard time believing that Rush would be dumb enough to admit his ACTUAL agenda. (And yes, I know I just said Rush isn't dumb. Forgive me.)

28. Get back to me after you watch the full thing.
I can guarantee you he wasn't jesting in the slightest. I have a feeling that he knows that his followers are too stupid to be swayed by anything he says outside of his show.

9. It's called marketing.
I can't listen to more than 3 minutes of him without my blood pressure rising 20 points, but that's because I'm frustrated by the complete lack of reason in his statements (and this IS a critical thought issue...I have the same problems with some liberal media personalities).

For people on the right who don't think critically, I'm sure he's entertaining...just as I'm sure there are plenty of people on the left who are entertained by TYT. The bottom line is that Both Limbaugh and Cenk take actual facts and twist them to appeal to their audience. It's called marketing.

13. Do you really compare Cenk and Limbaugh?
I do think that Cenk can occasionally be a bit heavy handed, but I don't think there's ANY comparison in how the two respect facts and the truth. Cenk is pretty brilliant, IMO, and he almost always has the facts on his side. Can you give me an example of how TYT twists facts to appeal to their audience?

16. Not on the same scale, but their methods are similar.
Both completely discard critical thought to sell their views. Limbaugh has a much higher profile, but neither presents an honest account of the issues.

18. Can you provide an example for Cenk?
Again, I think he's pretty damned smart, damned funny and almost always fair. Limbaugh is none of those things. Can you give me an example of Cenk disregarding critical thought?

23. Ok, here's an example.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=383376&mesg_id=383376

Cenk presents this as Republicans rewriting the bible because even the bible doesn't agree with them. In fact, no such thing is happening. The group of Republicans he is talking about aren't doing anything that every Christian group hasn't done in the past. They're defining their interpretation of the bible.

24. I think that's quite a stretch.
I can't find fault with anything that he's saying there. Conservapedia does have a project to actually alter the text of the bible to create a new one. I don't see how "defining their interpretation" and rewriting is any different.

5. Watching Chris Rock stand-up routines entertain me....
however, I do not live and breath by the words of Chris Rock. Unfortunately for the listener's of Oxyrush - they'll do whatever he asks of them to do.

7. So the problem is the audience, not the entertainer...
Hey, criticize people for being incapable of rational thought and I'm there.

11. Entertainer still to blame
Because unlike Rush Limbaugh, Chris Rock doesn't use his fanbase to go out and act like assholes and do horrible things and be overall general idiots. Rock just entertains.

THEY create the market for the entertainer and THEY "go out and act like assholes".

25. It's kinda that Egg/Chicken situation
You have to think that Rush Limbaugh knows his audience has the collective IQ of a kumquat. And he knows these idiots are dumb enough to listen to what this guy has to say and actually follow his lead.

So which came first - the gulliable audience that will buy any schlock fed to them or the greed entertainer that knows he is making a mint off these idiots.

We could spend all day arguing this and both of us would be absolutely right and probably wrong too.
