boycott oklahoma
it was bad enough to see inhofe and coburn and their state counterparts being reichwing idiots. but, the latest nonsense out of OK--the 37 (highly intrusive, possibly illegal) questions that a woman MUST fill out when she has an abortion (or even uses Plan B) is so far beyond insulting, intrusive, woman-hating bs that I feel it is time to call for a boycott on the state, as we did when SD was planning on banning all abortions.

called state board of tourism this morning to announce, will call gov, etc., this afternoon. not one dime will I spend in that state (not that there is anything to go there for anyway) my friends who live there have been informed that they must come visit me. our weather and scenery are better, and, at least until the latest personhood amendment passes, our legislature is not quite so stupid.

2. I'd have to have a reason to visit before I could boycott...
and even though i'm only about a 6 hour drive away... I can't fathom ever going. So, i'm boycotting.. but that's like saying that i'm boycotting buying a nut cup. I won't buy one.. but since i'm female, I really never would have a reason to. ;)

4. I can't imagine wanting to visit Oklahoma anyway,
but I can't really support a boycott of an entire state. There have been calls to boycott Alaska for various reasons -- aerial predator control, the mere fact that Sarah Palin was our governor, etc. -- but all a boycott does is hurt good people who are in the tourism business. A boycott doesn't really have any effect on the offending individuals in government. Even declining tax revenue would only hurt ordinary people who really need the services.

9. colorado was boycotted after amendment 2, the unratified states were boycotted during the fight
fot the ERA--what happened, at least in CO-- was that, to a degree, and for a time, the reichwingnuts were not being elected in such large numbers.

putting pressure on the lege not to be such idiots has to come from the people.

23. The idea of a boycott is to get the attention of those people who don't
have a dog in the fight but who might get caught up in it. Those people will take notice and do battle with that minority that is pushing this woman hating agenda, by pressuring them and not voting those politicians and legislators back into office who did this. Otherwise a lot of people just don't notice if it's not affecting them on a personal level.

It can be a very beautiful place to go...

I don't believe a boycott would would accomplish anything.

I have not been to the beautiful parts of Oklahoma but only through the not-so-beautiful parts, so my apologies. Oklahoma is rather like Arkansas in that way.

22. They are actually called Chiggers,
And they itch like a mo fo. I don't remember if they are actually lice or mites, but they tend to hang out in tall grass or the woods and like to find warm moist spots on your body to dig in and lay eggs..Oh do they itch for a couple of weeks unless treated. Grammas specified treatment was nail polish on the red spot to suffocate em, this is all anecdotal, but it seemed to work.
Me I stay out of tall grass etc, but used to get them frequently playing in the fields on my grandparents farm.

Then again Ihofe and Coburn could not get them they only like living beings, not the walking dead(i wish then we could stake them thru the heart if they had one)

26. I'm exiled in Texas
I'm living in Texas at the moment due to my job; I frequently have to travel to Oklahoma to visit clients.

Oklahoma is the only place I've ever found that makes me want to get back to Texas.

(Yes, yes, I know -- there are some fine Democrats there. Unfortunately you are severely overwhelmed by the massive fucktardary exhibited by the vast majority of cretins/residents).

*although admittedly not MUCH less...there's are reasons Pennsylvania is described as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in the middle.

8. Also, what is manufactured in Oklahoma that we buy in stores?
Maybe telephone calls to their CEOs to boycott their products unless they exercise their influence to put a stop to this might help too. You can always get results when you hurt them in the pocketbook.

35. Other states also grow wheat so it will be hard to pin that down and they
could sell it to foreign countries as well. We need something that will hurt them. That will make their CEOs take notice and start making phone calls to their politicians. Don't they have a large RV manufacturing industry? Now since trailers and motor homes are sold mostly in the USA, that would hurt.

11. That's right, Oklahoma is a fugly cesspool...
Edited on Fri Oct-09-09 01:54 PM by Okie4Obama
There's no reason to come here at all:

Just because 2/3rds of my state enjoys living in a theocracy doesn't mean I live in some vast wasteland that has no value at all. It wouldn't be proper to claim California is a worthless hellhole because a majority there believe homosexuals are second class citizens. Personally, I get sick of the generalizations about Oklahoma. At least 1/3rd of us have a brain and a conscience.

13. I have spent enough time there to know that parts of it are beautiful--as are some of the people.
but I will not spend my money--even gas for getting across the state-- in a state that passes such insane laws. I have dear friends who live there, but they will have to come see me for now.

17. I understand your sentiment, but the idea that there is *nothing* good in my state...
is rampant here, and I think I reached a breaking point with the, "Look at the dumb, knuckle dragging Okies! Har har har!" posts. I think the law is disgusting, and I weep every time one of my senator's speaks. I have a vested interest in Oklahoma, being born and raised here, and living here with my entire family, that this state rid itself of this theocratic mindset and return to its progressive, socialist roots.

28. I live in NC now but used to live in nazibama.
I will not visit there for any reason, I have told my friends that.
They seem to think that North Central North Carolina (10 miles from Va) is somewhere near the arctic circle because we get a little snow. I do mean little.

Alabama has some beautiful places and wonderful folks, but the dangers of dealing with KKKrestian people and their version of cops....nope, nada, no, nein, neit, non.

I am sorry that the few people there that are sane have to cope with those others..I grew up in WV, it is very much the same, I come from a family that has gotten caught up in the rpuke /evilgelical bs so I don't go home very often either. NC is a strange mix of progressive and regressive. We live in a fairly progressive backwoods sort of town, our being gay has not seemed to engender any animosity.

24. What health care? No health care is being offered, but a lot of government
meddling is. If you had a national plan, I'm sure there would be federal caveats preventing this invasion of privacy and patient/doctor confidentiality that the state couldn't override making these laws useless.
