Today was my annual exam. Because I have health insurance, I was able to get my check-up at no cost (my employer pays for our annual well exam each year). Well, my doctor found a lump today. It might be nothing, but it's worth it to me to check it out just in case. So I called the Breast Care Center in West Palm Beach. They have a program for this month (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) that they give the first 5 women each day a free mammogram. The first appointment is Monday (I hate waiting to hear results like this, though), and I'm getting a free mammogram. They also mentioned that they have a Mammogram Party where you can bring 5 friends and have a party around your screening (no thanks).
The reason for my story today is that I'm lucky. But there are many other women out there not so lucky. I have a good job and health insurance. But there were people who were laid off recently here and they lost their coverage.
I'm not sure if this is the only Mammography Center in the country that is doing this, but I thought you might want to know. Oh yeah and wish me luck on Monday morning. :)
