Republican policies passed by Democrats are WORSE.... |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-14-09 08:50 PM by Junkdrawer
than Republican policies passed by Republicans. Here's why:
1.) It leads to deep cynicism in the voting public. People disengage and refuse to participate in the political process.
2.) If a Republican policy is passed by Republicans and fails, then a search for new directions can begin. But if a Republican policy is passed by Democrats and fails, then, what, we elect Republicans?
But mostly...
3.) BECAUSE DEMOCRATIC POLICIES ARE NEVER TRIED.

Well said, Junkdrawer.
I really worry about those young and first-time voters who volunteered, waited in line, and voted for Obama. The need to keep those voters engaged cannot be overstated. If they are disaffected, we are sunk.

I have voted Democrat in every election but I am giving serious consideration to voting independent this time. I completely agree. Democrats passing republican policy is very discouraging.

and policies that would have raised ire are now given a pass. Witness Clinton's welfare reform and NAFTA.

6. also, it increases support for bad policies, since shee--er, loyalists declare that those bad |
|
policies are now good because of who passed them
it brings conservatives into the party--and they've never been right about anything (except maybe "Stalin's bad news," but that didn't affect the validity of Marxism per se)

7. this of course raises the question as to |
|
what ARE true democratic policies and true republican parties.
and people in both parties will have a fair amount of disagreement over that.
