Alberto Gonzales Is Not The Problem
Let's imagine that Alberto throws his hands up and says, "Okay, screw it. I'm resigning effective tomorrow." Then what? Nothing would change. Do you think Bush would appoint someone idealogically different from Alberto as the new AG? Of course not. The problem is the entire administration, and unless they are all removed from office, changing one cog in the administration's machine is not going to make a bit of difference. The only benefit is that it is fun watching Alberto squirm on TV. :)

1. Agreed. It is ALL about Bush and Cheney. All eyes on the prize -
everything else is just an undesirable effect. The Dems need to focus on the Root Causes!

2. He's a stepping stone on the way to impeachment.
Nobody really followed it up, but at one point he said he wouldn't have fired Iglesias on his own, leaving the implication that he got orders from Bush to do so.

3. he is A problem. what the hell did he get paid for if he doesnt know anything and
cant remember anything and didnt have anything to do with the justice department he was supposedly in charge of?

the answer is he defrauded us because he DID NOT do the job of atty general but just worked as a political operative for rove/bush/cheney on our money. he is a criminal and this is just one of the crimes.

4. Getting rid of Gonzo would not change much, butit WOULD be
another big chink inour dear leader's armor! You may not seethat as much damage, but Shrub sure would! Every time he doesn't get his way, he is further diminished.

5. I don't think that's true really
Every roadblock and stumbling block and hamstring we can inflict on the criminals running (ruining) the USA, is more time taken away from them and less time for them to corrupt that which has not yet been corrupted and to steal that which they have not yet stolen. That, and it will hurt bushco if they have to get another AG appointed, only the new one is not going to be quite the toady that Fredo is. So yes, it will make a difference. A small one but a difference just the same.

6. It changes everything. He has used Justice to run interference...
for these assholes, pure and simple. If he goes the next AG has to be vetted by Democrats, not sleazy repugs. They have no choice. Once Alberto is out of the way the whole house of cards falls.
Bet on it.

8. He's a malignant tumor
but the body of our country and government is still riddled from head to toe with the Cancer of the neocon/Republican/fascists ensconced in the White House.

9. He's a symptom...
...but as * loses face, he loses his ability to appoint hard-right AGs. The more scandal after scandal weakens him, the more moderate his successful appointees will be.

11. 3 words: Democratic Senate Confirmation
that's the difference isn't it? The new AG would have to be approved under a different Senate blend than before. A hopefully more cynical and cautious one.

13. Alberto VO5...The Man's Political Gold
Edited on Fri Apr-20-07 01:37 PM by KharmaTrain
From a strictly partisan, political standpoint, this oxygen thief is a poster child for the ineptness and corruption of the Repugnicans. Every time he steps out he's a walking billboard for a myriad of not only scandals, but poorly executed ones. His personna just begs to "kick me"...either he's a lying political hack or a totally inempt fool.

Yes, his dismissal doesn't meant squat...he's a fixer...an enabler...not the brains in this syndicate. I still predict boooshie will use Berto like he always has...string him along and pay him nicely for cleaning up his crap. He'll dare the Senate to impeach Gonzo before he'll ask Gonzo to resign...and Gonzo being the total tool will comply. Boooshie will try to call the Senate's bluff and the process of removing this fool will chew up more precious "clock" while the politicization of the Justice Department moves into hyperdrive.

14. Gonzo makes Asscroft look good by comparison.
At least Asscroft, even though he was a POS had at least 2 functioning brain cells. Gonzo is a POS AND an idiot.
