They should be all over the Republicans on this issue. The Republicans have been preaching fiscal conservatism since they were defeated a year ago. They got religion. They want the Democrats to score every penny in their "healthcare" plan. They want to make sure that it is not going to cost us any money. It has to be "revenue neutral".

Reports are that each additional troop will cost us an extra $1 million per year. Thirty-thousand troops will cost us at least $30 billion dollars. The Repubs say they will support the President on this troop escalation. However, they have not said how they will pay for it. The Democrats should hold their feet to the fire before they authorize one more penny for this war. The Repubs have led with their chin and the Democrats need to knock them out. If the Republicans wish to play politics with the deficits and balanced budget, then Democrats should be willing to play the game also. Although a couple of Democrats have mentioned a surtax to pay for the war, the Party has mostly been silent and timid on the issue.
