Cyber Monday Sales Rise 16% (YOY) in U.S., Coremetrics Says

Online sales in the U.S. rose 16 percent today from a year ago as consumers hunted for bargains on Cyber Monday, according to online marketing firm Coremetrics.

Internet sales as of 3 p.m. New York time were at about the same level as on Black Friday, although they were increasing more quickly, San Mateo, California-based Coremetrics said in an e-mailed statement. The firm collects data from 500 retailers, including Petco Animal Supplies Inc., Bath & Body Works and Office Depot Inc.

The recession pushed more consumers to the Internet, where they can easily compare prices and search for discounts, said Fiona Dias, vice president at GSI Commerce Inc., which helps retailers sell products online. Web sales rose over the weekend and were expected to jump 10 percent to 15 percent today from last year, according to Shawn Milne, an analyst at Janney Montgomery Scott LLC.

“Online is tracking well and above estimates,” said San Francisco-based Milne, who was referring to weekend sales data.

1. I remember they claimed about the same last year
Then the number was quietly revised a few days later to the first YoY decline on a Cyber Monday ever recorded.

3. I dont really want doom
I just believe we wont solve our problems by listening to the BS were told to make us think things are improving.

We need honesty.

(Now you see why I never would have a career in politics!)

5. What we noticed was a drastic slowdown
in internet speed.

Our orders swarmed in all morning, then . . . nothing for an hour and a half, then a trickle after that. Slower than non-Holiday rates.

It's picked up again in the 6 pm hour (CST).

I don't know if it was clogged overall, or if this is net UN-neutrality at work, but it's been a very choppy day for us.
