Neighbor dumping car fluids |
|
Neighbor has been chopping a bunch of cars. Fluids visibly migrated to my property.
Asked him to stop, and/or start using pans to catch fluids.
Would you be upset if you had a neighbor that violated zoning laws and opened a salvage operation?
He thinks I'm a jerk for recording what he did.

3. Well, since they're ruining my land and property values, fuck him. |
|
I'd turn him in, especially considering the damage he's doing to the environment regardless of who owns the dirt.

4. We have a neighbor like that, too. |
|
He's built a ramshackle "shop" in his back yard where he works on cars. His offense is sweeping up the the debris on the floor and burning it. Smells like hell and gives my husband a headache.

6. Yes. Among many other problems with what he's doing |
|
anti-freeze can be fatal to neighborhood pets. That alone would make me turn him in.

7. I'd turn them in to the neighborhood code enforcement department in a heartbeat |
|
San Diego's new City Attorney has changed the way Code Enforcement operates. They have long had a reputation for doing nothing.
They actually do their job now. Several homes on my block complained about a barking dog at one house. The CE people took care of the problem, and they did it with compassion. They gave the dog owner plenty of time to straighten out her act.

8. I wouldn't have even talked to him |
|
He's in direct and flagrant violation of the law and is liable for cleanup of your property.
I would also contact an attorney and sue. You have experienced direct damages that can have a monetary sum affixed. Toxic dump cleanup is expensive and a toxic dump next to your property has just moved your property value to almost nil.

9. This could be EPA violation as well. |
|
We can't dump anything in my transportation garage, and we're inspected frequently. Why should he be allowed to pollute the whole neighborhood?

a chop shop is where stolen cars usually go to get 'chopped up' and sold for parts. do you suspect that is what your neighbor is doing? if so, you might want to inform the police of that as well, perhaps anonymously because these are potentially dangerous criminals you're dealing with.

17. You spoke with him before taking any other action which is what a neighbor should |
|
do, but how is he able to run a salvage operation next door to a residence?
And me? I wouldn't have the slightest qualms about turning him in if he kept illegally disposing of toxic wastes. That shit kills. and worse.

25. You are only allowed to have X many cars on your property- especially without license plates |
|
that's number one.
Number two, fluids are legally supposed to be disposed of properly.
This is why we pay the police.
