9. How very *festive* of you to bring up Lung Cancer on a Christmas post..... |
|
Does that have special meaning for you? Are you or a loved one suffering from lung cancer? In which case I (we @ DU) would be willing to discuss it with you (as much/or as little as you would like ~ DU'ers are a community that way )
OR
Why bring up lung cancer on a Christmas thread? There MUST be a REASON, please explain.....

That link on its post? It ain't from the American Cancer Society. But I wouldn't click on it unless you're running a script blocker.

made me laugh. thank you. i plan to do just that, actually. my daughter is no longer with us, my son and i are 3000 miles away from our loved ones without the money for anyone to make the trip to be together, and yes, the world is going to hell in a handbasket. so fuck it. we're going out of town. we're going to have ourselves a merry little christmas in washington dc, riding the metro and seeing the sights. if we don't tuck our troubles out of sight we won't be able to have a merry little christmas, and everyone deserves at least a few days a year to relax, regroup, and enjoy. to quit worrying if you will.
same to you bigbearjohn. everyone everywhere. have yourself a merry little christmas. chuckle.
my one decent radio station has gone from a decent mix to 24/7 christmas music. thank heavens for ipods. i will think of you every time i hear this song this year. as my dear departed mother was fond of saying, might as well laugh as cry. in the back of my mind i'm thinking of all the people suffering and dying but if i could not spend a couple days away from that i would go insane and if i went insane i would not be any good to anybody.

11. Years ago I met Ralph Blaine, who wrote that song |
|
he was always surprised that it had become a Holiday favorite, because he intended it to be horribly depressing. I suspect that he's no longer with us, as that was 18 years ago and he was about 91 at the time-but he was still working then, and still brimming with energy and life. Quite an impressive guy!
