Our media is saying he will increase the troops by 30 thousand in Afghanistan.

Could he suprise and say he is withdrawing? Is anything set in stone??

1. well he could, but i presume the generals already have their orders and the press have been briefed
if he reversed course im not sure how he could explain a change of heart 2ithin a 24 hours period unless there was new intellignece or advice from teh military....

2. We've been waiting for 8 years for any adult to speak to us about Afghanistan.....
so I can wait till tomorrow.

Time will tell what will happen, but I will wager you that this conflict will be ending
within the next couple of years.

4. i doubt it will end in the mind of the tribes of afghanistan, we may walk away and think its over
but i think it will follow our troops home and be something that will be dealt with for at least two generations.

5. I've only seen the 30,000 number in the TPM piece, and they didn't cite any sources

We've now heard figures ranging from 30 - 35,000. We won't really know how many troops or what the strategy is until tonight.

7. WaPo says it will be 34,000.
9,000 Marines are heading to Helmand in a matter of days. The only surprise coming is ow he is going to sell an escalation as a withdrawal.
