War is All We Need?-

I have not accepted excuses and rationalizations for this horrible useless Afghan war and I won’t tonight either.

by paradox

I hope the fools who continue to delude themselves that America is an upright Christian nation get all the dose of war necessary tonight from President Obama to forever crush the ridiculous idea out of their heads. Christians would never, ever escalate a war that has killed so many for so little, never, but of course that is not what the United States is, our Christian Nation status is just another ersatz excuse to dismember and murder children at Afghan weddings. Perhaps it’s entirely likely many millions will behold the Christian fantasy after all the war and blood and screams and flying limbs and splattered brains, but know with utter certainty not one other soul in our world will see us as Christians after tonight.

Again, only Americans would be so horribly gullible to swallow the absurdity that war is necessary for safety, as if the miniscule odds of terrorism death negate the hell and mayhem of handgun and automobile trauma in this violent and dangerous country. What Americans allegedly accept as totally necessary for “safety” the rest of the world utterly sees a great nation tragically led around by the nose by robed stoned pipsqueaks in the land of hash and opium.

Obama loyalists, Party stalwarts, netroot strategists, I am not tired of war, no, I am nauseatingly sick of it with a searing disgust. I’m always amazed any other rational public administrator can’t see: in a land of raging hunger, homelessness, education neglect and all the rest what in the holy hell are we throwing away billions away on a daily basis for something so stupid and regressive as war?

I have not accepted excuses and rationalizations for this horrible useless Afghan war and I won’t tonight either. My respect for the leadership of the Democratic Party has reached a new low, Hillary Clinton mouthing awful corruption platitudes while Karzai’s drug dealer brother is on the CIA payroll, my God just shut up with how it’s all going to be different now that change is here.

They wont themselves enlist, tho. they wont send their own kids. they will sit comfortably at home and play video games and eat their brie and support Obama because its the chic thing to do amongst their circle of friends.

They wont look at the deaths or horror.

Obama during the campaign was going to focus on Afghanistan and send more troops, he did say it a number of times in his speeches, but I'm totally against this idea, we have been there for 8 years, and did we learn anything about the other countries to tried to conquer or invaded that country, they retreated. Just very disappointing, all the war profiteers are very happy.

Not only does it help the war profiteers in general, but Afghanistan is a massive bed of natural gas and minerals that are largely untapped. That's what this has always been about.

Of course, the American people don't get to see the profits of it and the Afghan people get to continue living in squalor. But it sure does make the bottom line of some companies really, really nice.

Afghanis?

We were so distraught and traumatized when the SAUDIS allegedly murdered 3000 of our countrymen that we had to immediately take our revenge by wreaking terror upon the Iraqis and the Afghanis.

Our corporate warlords and their corporate media propaganda machine will never allow us to see the horrors and devastation we have brought down upon those two nations. If we saw it all. If we saw the children blown to pieces, the families starving to death and freezing to death, the orphans, our own soldiers shrieking in pain and terror, our collective psyche would implode. We are a vast herd lulled to sleep by TeeVee and platitudes about God and Democracy and Saving The World.

We are nothing more than sheeplike serfs laboring for our warlord masters.

Thank you for posting this, kpete.

24. Thanks kpete. I too am against expanding wars for pipeline-istan

Pipeline-Istan: Everything you need to know about oil, gas, Russia, China, Iran Afghanistan & Obama

http://www.bushstole04.com/Obama_Presidency.htm/obama_oil_gas.htm
excerpts:

Afghanistan is believed to be rich in unexplored deposits of natural gas, petroleum, coal, copper, chrome, talc, barites, sulfur, lead, zinc, and iron ore, as well as precious and semiprecious stones.

TAPI's (Turkmenistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan - Iran Pipeline) roller-coaster history actually begins in the mid-1990s, the Clinton era, when the Taliban were dined (but not wined) by the California-based energy company Unocal and the Clinton machine. In 1995, Unocal first came up with the pipeline idea, even then a product of Washington's fatal urge to bypass both Iran and Russia. Next, Unocal talked to the Turkmenbashi, then to the Taliban, and so launched a classic New Great Game gambit that has yet to end and without which you can't understand the Afghan war Obama has inherited.

A Taliban delegation, thanks to Unocal, enjoyed Houston's hospitality in early 1997 and then Washington's in December of that year. When it came to energy negotiations, the Taliban's leadership was anything but medieval. They were tough bargainers, also cannily courting the Argentinean private oil company Bridas, which had secured the right to explore and exploit oil reserves in eastern Turkmenistan.

In August 1997, financially unstable Bridas sold 60% of its stock to Amoco, which merged the next year with British Petroleum. A key Amoco consultant happened to be that ubiquitous Eurasian player, former national security advisor Zbig Brzezinski, while another such luminary, Henry Kissinger, just happened to be a consultant for Unocal. BP-Amoco, already developing the Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, now became the major player in what had already been dubbed the Trans-Afghan Pipeline or TAP. Inevitably, Unocal and BP-Amoco went to war and let the lawyers settle things in a Texas court, where, in October 1998 as the Clinton years drew to an end, BP-Amoco seemed to emerge with the upper hand.

Under newly elected president George W. Bush, however, Unocal snuck back into the game and, as early as January 2001, was cozying up to the Taliban yet again, this time supported by a star-studded governmental cast of characters, including Undersecretary of State Richard Armitage, himself a former Unocal lobbyist. The Taliban were duly invited back to Washington in March 2001 via Rahmatullah Hashimi, a top aide to "The Shadow," the movement's leader Mullah Omar.

Negotiations eventually broke down because of those pesky transit fees the Taliban demanded. Beware the Empire's fury. At a Group of Eight summit meeting in Genoa in July 2001, Western diplomats indicated that the Bush administration had decided to take the Taliban down before year's end. (Pakistani diplomats in Islamabad would later confirm this to me.)

The attacks of September 11, 2001 just slightly accelerated the schedule. Nicknamed "the kebab seller" in Kabul, Hamid Karzai, a former CIA asset and Unocal representative, who had entertained visiting Taliban members at barbecues in Houston, was soon forced down Afghan throats as the country's new leader.

Among the first fruits of Donald Rumsfeld's bombing and invasion of Afghanistan in the fall of 2001 was the signing by Karzai, Pakistani President Musharraf and Turkmenistan's Nyazov of an agreement committing themselves to build TAP, and so was formally launched a Pipelineistan extension from Central to South Asia with brand USA stamped all over it.

Russian President Vladimir Putin did nothing -- until September 2006, that is, when he delivered his counterpunch with panache. That's when Russian energy behemoth Gazprom agreed to buy Nyazov's natural gas at the 40% mark-up the dictator demanded. In return, the Russians received priceless gifts (and the Bush administration a pricey kick in the face). Nyazov turned over control of Turkmenistan's entire gas surplus to the Russian company through 2009, indicated a preference for letting Russia explore the country's new gas fields, and stated that Turkmenistan was bowing out of any U.S.-backed Trans-Caspian pipeline project. (And while he was at it, Putin also cornered much of the gas exports of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as well.)

37. This modern democratic party puts privileged agendas and money ahead of people.
It's at the root of war policy, continued hegemony, half-assed pathetic and shameful domestic policy, inexcusable economic policy.....

It's ridiculous, pathetic and disgusting.

I will say this though - the party is a master at selling the "we're better than republicans" line to its faithful masses. It's the only tool they need to keep their people in line and continue their own part in running the country into the ground.

We we need is to stop looking at it as Republican vs. Democrat and start looking at is as people vs. power.

Sorry but the national Democratic Party has become power, and answers to wealth and privilege first these days. It's time for a battle against these institutions that prioritize the wants and whims of the privileged elite over the needs of working class Americans. Take off the "D" insignia, at least until those who have totally betrayed the most noble ideals of the party are removed.

The world is my country, not the united states.

The people are my party, not the democratic elitist party

To do good is my religion, not judeo-Christianity or any other institutional indoctrinator.

I am beyond outraged that our troops are not being brought home. The speech Obama gives should be telling us how we are leaving, mission accomplished ala Bush parade, who the hell cares...our country is in death throes and we are worried about Afghanistan when it's the Pakistan/India connection that nobody's going to deal with? The profits are excellent from the wars...it's the only job available.
All the while Iran is taking full advantage of our pre-"occupation".

52. I protest war under ANY administration.
As the Dalai Lama once said, "War is obsolete." People are too connected. We only have one planet, with limited resources. We have to get along if any of us, or all of us are to survive.

I am also not too cool with General Mc Crystal. Wasn't he behind the Pat Tillman coverup? Sounds like someone who will cover his posterior at any cost, and this one is big.

And as far as Kucinich is concerned, he will continue to get contributions from me, whatever office he seeks, whether I live in his district or not. He deserves it, and more!

66. Ah But this war has meant a lot
for the war profiteers from the military (Congressional) industrial complex and their colleagues from Wall Street who invest in energy.

72. Kick! You're right. It's about the disgusting choice of war.
It's pathetic to listen to people justify military action, especially for "humanitarian" reasons. Wars are never winnable, one can only survive them. Everyone loses.
