Dylan Ratigan on MSNBC suggests the state shouldn't be involved in marriages. |
|
He is not thinking that through. Not making a good case against the "sanctity of marriage".
Public policy has been created to facilitate the steps followed when there is a divorce when it comes to child support and the split up of marital property. It is intended to protect the interests of those in the marriage.
Back in the old days many marriages especially those of common poor folks were not legalized. I recall this was the case in mining communities. They would shack up until the man moved on to another job in a different community. He would leave the woman behind to find another man to keep her.

1. Ideally, I'd like to see civil unions for everyone... |

and relegate the word "marriage" to the various religions, who can decide for themselves who can get married in their eyes. In that sense, I'd agree with Ratigan.
