Hot Air Balloon

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He lowered his
altitude and spotted a woman in a boat below.

"Excuse me, can you help me?” he shouted down to the woman. "I promised a friend I would meet her an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”

The woman consulted her portable GPS and replied: "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground, at an elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude. "

The man rolled his eyes and said, “You must be an Obama Democrat.”

"I am," the woman replied. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The woman smiled. "You must be a Republican," she said.

"I am," the man replied. "How did you know?"
"Well, you don't know where you are or where you are going,” the woman said. “You've risen to where you are because of a large quantity of hot air. You have made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow it’s now my fault.”

I know you are a Republican because you aren't very smart. Given that you are at an altitude of 2,346ft, you now know that my boat is in a lake someplace and if you waited just a bit, you would know what general direction the wind (at 30ft above the surface) is blowing (relative to my boat). If you remained at the same relative altitude over the lake, when you reach shore, you can ask someone else where you are. Now you know the direction of the wind (at 30ft). If they are a democrat, you will also have two GPS locations. From that you can determine the wind speed and absolute direction.

At that point, you can pull your head out of your ass and look around and probably figure out where you need to go. Besides, your voice is really muffled the way it is now, I'm surprised you can talk to anyone.

BTW, you are in west Texas near the town of Mertzon.
