Shortly after Obama became president, 21 thousand troops were sent there. No one should ignore that

Murtha went over to Afghanistan earlier this year on a fact finding mission, and the estimates were at least 10 years

We can't afford healthcare, but we can afford war

What is wrong with this picture?

The other outrage will be that it won't be covered, since the legacy of bush/cheney insured that our press doesn't cover our wars in any depth

Because this is the kind of discussion we should be having, not change and betrayal threads.

3. I'd still like to know how many of our guys died in Iraq. They never
bothered to count the mercenary dead.

5. Exactly.
We can't afford healthcare, but we can afford war

This is exactly the point that really angers me.

So much good could have come from that money. And what are we spending it on?

War.

9. want to know what it is costing us?
For an LTTE last year, I did some calculations.

If the war cost a mere $1T, here is what we are giving up

1. 16,667 teacher per state for 30 years

or

2. necessary repairs on 70,000 bridges identified by Am Soc of Civ Eng
plus
675,000 teachers for 30 years

or

3. 50 new High Schools per state - each staffed with 260 teachers for 30 years

or

4. 3,400 new hospitals

This has been an expensive undertaking in terms of what we are losing.

11. terms like billions and trillions mean little-to-nothing
putting it in terms people can relate to really demonstrates the cost of these wars, imo.
