I thought grantcart did a great job laying this out.

5. He says...
"As Mr. Hoh has noted the initial strategic reason for being there is no longer operative.

The new situation does pose some strategic issues that are even more important than the original one."

So, now he wants to sell me on:

a) Pakistan/India stability.

Can we realistically stabilize an area of 1 billion? Should we? I think not, IMHO.

b) The Development of Afghanistan as a Narco-State.

Afghanistan drug production is far above where it was when we started so we have failed here already. Not only that but fighting drugs and with our military and by making them illegal is not the best way to do it, IMHO.

C) Collateral Damage

He's trying to sell that if we leave people will be killed. Well, it will not be my tax dollars doing the killing. And if we stay many will die also, in the end, who knows what the blow-back from our involvement there might be? Another 9-11? As it was when we supported bin Laden in the 70's? Sorry no sale.

Be interesting to hear what the president says, but I think it will just be 'we have to increase to decrease', again, no sale.

The mission, IMHO, is simply to sell arms and support the Military Industrial Complex.

7. I am quite capable of reading it for myself grahamhgreen
He says a lot more than that. Why don't you let people decide for themselves what it says?
