Police: Woods at fault in crash, will get citation
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tiger Woods will get a careless driving citation for a car crash outside his Orlando-area mansion last week, but will not face criminal charges, the Florida Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

Woods faces a $164 fine and four points against his driver's license. The citation will close the investigation.

"Despite the celebrity status of Mr. Woods, the Florida Highway Patrol has completed its investigation in the same professional manner it strives to complete each traffic investigation," Sgt. Kim Montes said.

<snip>
An attorney for the neighbors who dialed 911 after the crash said Woods did not appear to be driving under the influence and showed no signs of having been in a fight. The Florida Highway Patrol said there were no claims of domestic violence and no reason to issue a subpoena for medical evidence.

Woods' injuries were "consistent with a car wreck and inconsistent with him being beat up," said Bill Sharpe, the attorney for the neighbors. "The scratches on his face were consistent with someone who maybe was in a minor car accident and hit his head on the windshield. ... None of his injuries looked like he was beat up by his wife."

Well, I'm sure this will end the story.:sarcasm:

1. Right, Im sure if I crashed my car in to a fire hyrdant at 2:30 in the am
I would not get a DUI test and a citation wouldn't come for 5 days.

2. *and* not be jailed for refusing to answer/cooperate.
Before anybody gets p.o.ed at my legal ignorance and flames at me on the grounds that he is not legally obligated to answer to cops, an argument I have just heard since this incident: Just saying what I *know* has happened in other cases.

4. If you did it on private property, then you are correct.

6. If Mr Woods crashed on private property, why would he be getting a citation at all?
Apparently I'm missing something here or Mr Woods wasn't on private property.

8. I was in an accident at my cousin's house.
I was backing out and ran into a tree, then my car ended up in a ditch. No part of the accident left her property.

A cop showed up and desparately wanted to give me a ticket or do something. She finally left.

15. You sure about that?
Maybe you can then explain why he is getting a ticket?

18. Yeah, I am sure about that. My response was to his obligation to speak to the police. (He has none)
That does not preclude the possibility of a citation.

21. Your right to refuse to talk to police has nothing to do with private property
Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 10:24 AM by no limit
Therefore if me, regular old Joe, crashed in to a tree at 2 am I would be subject to a dui test and I doubt my citation would come 5 days later even if it happened on private property. That was simply my point.

11. you have no idea what you are talking about
i've responded to dozens of such incidents, many where the driver left the scene. w/o PC, you would NOT get a DUI test.

it works the same way with nobodies as it does with tiger.

My friend recently got arrested for a DUI because he didn't use his turn signal while pulling out of his neighborhood around midnight on a thursday night. Once he got to the police station he blew a .00 but still got arrested because the cop said he was way too nervous during the onsite dui test. Then when it came time for court the DA lost the paper work and the charges were dropped. As far as I know not using your turn signal isn't probable cause for a DUI.

Maybe you're different in which case good for you, but most cops don't give a shit about P/C (unless you happen to be rich and/or famous).

16. i would hesitate to say "most'
but there are certainly some idiots out there.

you are right that not using your turn signal is not PC for dui. you would definitely need more indicia of impairment.

any cop in my dept who arrested a .000 dui would be endlessly ridiculed about it.

it's the way we roll

20. thanks
we are feeling pretty good today, that the guy is no longer at large.

and i learned about "booking bail" in pierce county, which is simply ridiculous.

despite the preponderance of negative anti-police posts, we know that most people are behind us, as poll after poll shows.

7. Piss wheeling our your drive way at
2:30 am, losing control of your vehicle, wiping out a fire hydrant and uprooting a giant oak is much better eating for the testosterone set. Getting the shit beat of of you by the little Mrs., not very cool. ;-)

9. Good luck sleeping, Tiger, when she finds out about the others
Tiger Woods was braced for new trouble tonight amid reports that at least two women are set to go public with claims that they had affairs with the world’s highest-earning sportsman.

RadarOnline.com a celebrity news website, reported that several women had come forward claiming to have had sex with the billion-dollar golfer, including one who purports to have “explosive” answerphone recordings.

25. that's an insurance issue
Not something the police deal with. The city will send a bill for the hydrant, and his auto insurance will likely pay for the neighbor's tree/lawn and probably the hydrant as well. This is why people have insurance.

23. WHAT? No public flogging, at high-noon, in the town square?
seriously though, young up-an-coming sports people/movie people/singers etc, should have to take a class..in the class, there would be attention paid to a few facts:

1..once you cross over into PUBLIC adoration/ respect/ admiration/ adulation/ etc. and you do it FOR THE MONEY, those adoring fans OWN YOU.

2..everything you DO.. EVERYTHING is "fair game".

3..if you want PRIVATE, buy yourself an island somewhere, or stay inside your house, and sweep for microphones, bugs, video equipment.

4..if you are enjoying multiple-partner dating, and you want to keep doing it..DO NOT GET MARRIED.

5..if you DO get married, cheating will be EXTREMELY costly , unless you marry someone of equal status.wealth and have an airtight pre-nup..and have NO kids.

6..if you have kids, those kids will be a COMODITY, and pictures of THEM will be the Holy Grail for papparazzi

7.. money is great, but it has lots of strings attached, and you can never "go back"..even if you lose your money & fame, those articles & photos will live forever.

down the driveway trying to shatter your back window with a golf club. LOL.
