CHAMBERSBURG -- An atheistic and agnostic group plans to seek legal action against the Borough of Chambersburg following a decision Monday night that bans anything other than flags and flowers from adorning the Memorial Square fountain war memorial.

The unanimous decision from Chambersburg Borough Council came after Carl Silverman, director of the mid-state chapter of PA Nonbelievers, asked permission to place an atheist-oriented sign on the fountain, near the nativity scene.

The sign, which he said has not yet been made, would have had a picture of a sun rising over the words "Celebrating Solstice. Honoring Atheist War Veterans." The sun would have had an italicized "A" in the middle.

1. I don't see how that atheist sign is offensive in the least
Offering a Solstice greeting and honoring atheist vets. What is wrong with that? See this is where the backlash comes from. Some Christians wonder why some atheists try to take Christian symbols out of the public square. It's because they refuse to allow anyone other than Christians to put religious or philisophical symbols in the public square. If it were more inclusive they might find there is less of a backlash.

2. They pulled out the old (not kidding) NAMBLA and NAZI booga booga on this one.
Seriously. The council decided that if they let the agnostics and atheists have a sign, NAMBLA and the NAZI party would want a display. That's dumber than fuck-all. I doubt there are any Nazis or NAMBLA members IN Chambersburg, but there are a shitload of dumb-ass so-called Christians with too much time on their hands. The church DIRECTLY OPPOSITE the traditional display spot offered their lawn for the nativity. But NOOOOOOOO - that wasn't good enough. They had to protest and make a fuss - something about the Constitution making this a Christian nation.

Note: I recently re-read the Constitution, including all of the amendments, and there isn't diddlysquat about that anywhere in it.

4. I seriously doubt that any of the protesting dumbfucks know what the hell NAMBLA means.
They just know it is a "bad thing", like "libruls".
