10. Person campaigns for more troops in Afghanistan, gets Nobel Peace Prize.
He's doing exactly what he promised in the campaign.

Seems like the Nobel Prize committee and many people here on DU have selective memory.

16. i think that the nobel prize committee and many people here on du were led to believe..
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 06:40 PM by frylock
that this guy is pretty smart. i also think that the nobel prize committee and many people here on du thought that obama might be persuaded to change his position once it was realized what a charlie foxtrot a troop escalation would be. i know for a FACT that most people here on DU didn't go for the stalwart and resolute bullshit when bush used it. i also happen to believe that a percentage of people here on DU don't give two shits about policy as long as it's their guy calling the shots.

31. Who's surprised?
Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 06:17 PM by moodforaday
The escalation isn't surprising. Our masters want more war and they always get what they want. It's not surprising, it's just wrong.

I'd say the peace prize was a surprise to me. It taught me to be even more cynical than I had been.

30. Yeah, because expanding a war
is really ending it. We just have to kill some more people before we can stop killing them. War is peace or, to borrow from another Du-er, escalation is withdrawal.

They used to say that Bush would have to eat a baby alive on TV before his supporters would turn against him. I guess this is true about many supporters of *any* leader. Not a reason to be optimistic about what history awaits us.
