the Taliban are clearly more skeptical today than they were in those days. Also, getting someone in is only half of the difficulty. The ability of those infiltrators to get information back out is also huge.

157. I'll concede your point. However, I do not see the Taliban as a realistic threat to the U.S. |
|
Should they overrun the whole of Afghanistan, they'll be too busy stoning women and bombing girl's schools to plot terrorist attacks against the U.S.
The jihadis of the world don't especially need the Taliban's help to commit mayhem. Since they're not actually headquartered in Afghanistan, it's utterly absurd to keep a bunch of our soldiers there.
I mean, fer chrissakes -- google earth can post a picture of the street where you live, complete with the makes and models of the cars parked on it. Does anyone seriously believe that we wouldn't be able to detect the existence of a training camp if such a thing should be started up again?
Why should one single American soldier die to prop up the benighted Karzai government? It's absolutely senseless!
Let's get the fuck out. If the people in power in Afghanistan and Pakistan want to save their asses, let them figure out how to do it themselves.

|
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 09:50 PM by YouTakeTheSkyway
- at least not at this stage (Pakistan raises some serious concerns though). However, there is an indirect threat, in the sense that if we withdraw and the Taliban take over, they'll once again open the country up for their buddies, al-Qaeda.
The training facilities aren't always easy to spot, as we've seen in western Pakistan, they're often blended in with the civilian population, so I question your claim that we'd spot such operations fairly easily. Our best resources for detecting them thus far are human, being on the ground, making and maintaining contacts with locals. By withdrawing, we severely decrease our ability to do that. That's someone we can't ignore in all of this talk about withdrawal. It'd have consequences - some of which might be good, but some of which will certainly be bad.

unlike a civilian audience, you do not applaud or show anything outwards unless your chain agrees to it. Why he was given a polite applause as he walked in.
Trust me, it is hard to just seat and listen to speeches and not be able to react.

Or that he placed his old friend "Tim Osman" (CIA alias) in charge of that particular terrorist unit, originally meant to fuck with the Commies in Afghanistan.
