I will start this post off by saying that I support sending more troops to Afghanistan. However, I did not expect the speech would be so Bush like. There were the numerous mentions of 9/11 (3 open and 1 slightly hidden). There were other instances when Obama called for unity. Maybe it was just me, but it seemed like Obama was doing a hidden everyone needs to support the war. In addition, it seemed that Obama had some of his national security ideas, history, and facts wrong. This speech reminded me so much of President Bush. At some point I thought you could have either morphed Obama into Bush or just replaced Obama with Bush. So, what do others think?

But I don't think he was in combat. JFK and Bush the First saw combat.

We were all for Bush pulling out of Iraq and putting troops into Afghanistan... now that Obama is doing it, it's somehow a bad thing.
Obama redirected the 9/11 issue. It had to be done.

He spoke very plainly and directly. His audience is considered a hostile audience so he was very subdued and conservative in the words he chose.

Shrub used 9/11 to push a BS war in Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11. Afghanistan certainly had something to do with 9//. You are comparing apples to oranges.

38. This was about Pakistan as much as Afghanistan. |
|
This is the war in Afghanistan that Bush DIDN'T do. But after 8 years of wrong it's hard for some people to admit that the correct thing to do is to do the war right. Also, the President said that NATO will be supplying more troops.
Afghanistan is a big shit sandwich that got served by Bushco. Yes, it is icredibly easy for me sitting in my mom's basement eating Cheetos to support sending people's husbands, wives, sons and daughters to fight a shit war, but THAT was the hand the President was dealt and I believe he is doing the right thing.
And for the knee-jerk negative reaction to Obama mentioning 9/11, it was ABSOLUTELY essential to framing the argument.
