I am so disappointed with Obama's speech.....
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 10:28 PM by nomaco-10
Why doesn't he get it!

Why doesn't he get that there is NO VICTORY to be "WON" in Afghanistan?

Afghanistan is this nation's next Vietnam.

I am so disappointed, BUT it's not the first time.

I do however believe that he is still head and shoulders above hillary clinton and the john mccain/sarah palin ticket.

But that seems little comfort at this point.

WTF Obama!!!!! Are you kidding me?

4. There will not be a clear victory in Afghanistan as such
But we certainly can impact security in an area that is critical (whether many acknowledge it)for national security. To a lesser extent the same can and will be said of Africa. Failed states are a phenomenon that is new, will not dissapear and will add to the continuing challenge of asymetric warfare and security challenges. Because, believe it or not, we've stopped follow on attacks, and many of them, though not on the level of what we experienced on 9/11.

11. These terrorists plan in terms of years, with minimal support for their operatives.
Sooner or later we'll miss catching one, and our grand adventure in Afghanistan will have been for naught.

14. Unless you consider
That we'll actually, through our efforts stop one. Especially the fact that we'll contain a nuke from falling into the wrong hands. Iknow, mostly a matter of perspective, but it would help to be mindful of the fact that most of us are not privy to daily security briefings from the NSA. I'm not a fear monger, but after being exposed to a side of our national security apparatus rarely seen, I'm more convinced of another horrific event happening if we stop our forward current forward lean.

15. We can stop 99 terrorist attacks, but the hundredth will get through.
Stopping terror against us isn't about military force; it's about not being the bigger terrorist. We stop our brutalization of Arabs and Muslims, either directly or through our regional proxies, and the resources of hate and resentment that the terrorists draw upon will dry up, as will they.

17. Right...
We were supposedly attacked by 19 guys with box cutters, who brought the US to it's knees after our defenses miraculously dropped their collective shorts and bent over. Exactly how does carpet bombing prevent that?

6. Maybe we were not listening to the same speech
Because I heard from Obama why this will not be another Vietnam, why it was important and why we needed an exit strategy..I don't know, just sayin maybe you should listen more and argue less! Obama has not done everything that I agree with but he is still a Democrat who does care, are you going to tell me that Bush cared or actually consulted with experts or even knew what an exit strategy was? Because this guy actually gets it and understands that world matters are bigger than you or I!

9. Yes. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
:sarcasm:

Johnson and Nixon tried to act like Vietnam wasn't Vietnam. Obama is not about to admit this is a mistake any more than those two admited their war was. Crap, he all outlined pretty the same "Vietnamazation" policy Nixon tried to sell us.

16. Any "electable" candidate the Powers That Be install via an "election" works for vested interests
Not The People. It's been that way for so long ... I'm surprised in how it appears that this current 'friendlier' face the PTB have applied to Empire is really starting to get people to take notice of the broader ruse at work. Hopefully it will pay off w/more people working to support genuine lefties/libs/progs!
