A cultural oddity, the carefully crafted euphemism.

transgression vs I F'ed up royally
let his family down vs cheated on the mother of his children
personal family matter vs NOW I want privacy..but keep buying my products
spend more time with the family vs quit taking my picture & asking questions
sorry, if it offended anyone vs I am not really sorry..just sorry you found out

in most of these euphemistic contortions, the FAMILY is the aggrieved party, and do they really want MORE time with the transgressor?

Most of the time, the "transgressor" has done the ultimate "bad thing".

A simple.. "I cheated on my wife, and I am sorry, and hope she can forgive me, and I would appreciate some privacy as we deal with this. " would have been plenty to say, and probably would have gone a long way to please her, and get the public to get off their case..
