All Staff Meeting @Washington Times Called at 2:48 pm.... LINK
Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 03:26 PM by Blackhatjack
Josh Marshall is reporting they have learned it was called with 1 hour prior notice by the publisher. Hmmmm.... sounds like something big is coming down the tracks.

"It's not clear what's up yet. But an impromptu all-staff meeting has just been called at the Washington Times. The meeting was called at 2:48 PM by Publisher Jonathan Slevin for 3:30 PM. So pretty short notice and a lot of questions in the building about what's up at the beleaguered paper.

A newsroom source tells TPM the meeting "is a complete surprise."

"Nobody has hinted at anything bad and the top guys have been talking as though we have a long term to plan for. A meeting with one hour notification is not good," the source said."

4. Maybe this was supposed to be Kos's big news
If they are going under, it's no surprise. I don't think they've ever broken even, much less turned a profit.

6. Put in perspective of a family fight within the Church and who is in control ....
This could be bloody, with older brother pitted against younger brother, both hoping to take control of the vast church empire as Moon steps down.

9. HERE IT IS --"Significant Layoffs" up to 40% of Staff in 1st Q 2010...
Makes you wonder if the 'paper' is moving into the death spiral as rumors circulate that the Washington Times has been living off of Unification Church contributions for years, and not ad and circulation revenue.

Given the brutal fight between brothers who fight for power, would not surprise me that the Washington Times folds.
