Doesn't USUALLY involve getting people killed.

Everybody should walk the walk, but hawks should march the march.

Btw, I work for the Alaska Marine Highway System, a state-owned ferry system that provides reasonably-priced transportation to places that would otherwise be inaccessible, and whose crews are mostly members of the maritime division of the ILWU, the great left-wing union founded by Harry Bridges and the longshoremen of the West Coast. We're the only way people from Alaska Native villages can get from their homes to other communities and the larger world. And we don't ever come close to a profit.

10. Sorry, Ken - MOST of the time it DOES involve getting people killed.
History says just that.

12. Not people who are only killed because they've been ordered to be there
Or just happened to have stepped in the crossfire.

And those were at least situations where the loss could lead to something positive. That isn't the case in Afghanistan and it hasn't been the case in any war this country has engaged in since 1945. World War II was the last progressive U.S. war, and the Cold War was largely whipped up to destroy any progressive energy that emerged from it.

7. What do you do?
Not trying to bust you out or anything, but just being curious about who the people are behind the screen name.

I work at an economic development organization that focuses on Latino micro-enterprises.

6. I support President Obama's decision
to do what he thinks is the best way to wrap up this war.

Nothing I've seen around here is about debating his decision on facts.. all I see here are lies and subterfuge. Those calling for enlistment are not recognizing exactly what the president is doing.

Seems it can't be debated on reality..just the perception.

15. the reality of the matter is for each Taliban you kill, you breed at least 10 more!
They die as martyrs, and many others take their place.

8. I'm not quite sure
Which jobs are valid and which aren't. My present idea from DU is that IT workers and people who work for the auto companies should have no competition from outside the U.S. Everyone else's jobs are not as important as that.

People who work for banks or insurance companies are evil. Or, their bosses are evil, so their jobs aren't worth it. I think that includes the IT workers who work for those companies, but I'm not sure.

I know we told Freepers they should enlist, but not everyone actually serves in the military or should. Some countries have a compulsory military. But the freeps were rabid, so they deserved it. But amongst the rational, it's not everyone who can go into combat. Too old or too female, and so what can we do? Doesn't mean we have to oppose every war at all times, does it?

That mentality would say only men of combat age should get to decide. And well, that may not be a bad standard. At least they should have a big say. But then they are younger and may not understand everything.

Just like we should not have to support any war for the sole reason that someone has to die in it, we don't have to oppose every single war because someone will die in it. Obviously Americans would die in WWII and we knew it.

It's just emotional dishonesty. The real issue is whether the war should be fought. Bringing up this other stuff is to avoid the issue.

14. The chickenhawk line of arguing did not work when we used it in 2002 and 2004
It didn't work against Saxby Chambliss, nor did it work against Bush and Cheney.
