What to make of the Pakistani reaction heard on NPR this a.m.?
yes, yes, i know. i still listen to NPR.

i heard an interview with a Pakistani reporter (i think) who said that the Pakistani intelligensia &/or the middle-class were freaked out because Obama said WHEN WE ARE GOING TO WITHDRAW from Afganistan. IIRC, the prez said withdrawal starting next july, out by 2012 (the election, obs).

the troop increase barely registered with them - but the withdrawal date has them panicked. you can call BS on those dates, of course, but i found it interesting that that's what Pakistanis took away from the speech - versus our focus on the escalation.
