He promised to escalate the war in Afghanistan during his run for president and he is simply fulfilling his promise.

1. He was wrong during the campaign and he's wrong now.
I'm ok with him being a liar on this one.

3. Afghanistan was a quagmire then as it is now.
The only difference is that we're seeing more loss of life.

5. so instead he's a warmonger and a criminal....
That's a major improvement over failing to keep a campaign pledge. I hate it when politicians do that.

Just in case it's needed: :sarcasm:

9. He also promised to renegotiate NAFTA, support ENDA and EFCA, end DADT,
and so on and so on.

This thread has already been posted about a thousand times since last night. How about you wait until the central committee sends out the new talking points--this one is really stale.

All politicians lie. :eyes: I was hoping this was one of the things he was lying about to appeal to the hawks. I was wrong and I can live with it, but please don't tell me that shit is puppies and ice cream.

Not every promise can be kept, but its better if at least some of them are kept so the prez can preserve his integrity.

12. Unfortunately
The speech last night should have been given 8 years ago.

Bush took his eye off the ball and put us in Iraq instead.

I actually give Obama a lot of credit for handling what was handed to him by a bunch of sorry ass losers called the GOP.

15. He promised to continue this war ....
I don't remember anything about him promising to escalate it. That is more recent. Why should you think it is a good thing that he fulfill his promise to keep fighting in Afghanistan, and indeed keep pushing more and more people into harm's way, when he hasn't fulfilled any of his other campaign promises?

Is that our criterion for support or non support of this war? Gee, Obama finally kept a promise. Everybody celebrate! No thank you. I'll pass.

17. Did he cut a deal for healthcare?
My friend had offered up that possibility. Quid Pro Quo for getting healthcare passed? He didn't have the same voice last night as previous speeches, so it makes me wonder.
