on the daily show last night
It was no surprise Jon took delight in laying into the climate scientist last night. The hacked email scam seemed to be right up his ally. After sucking up to the horribly (and very funny if you know anything) written Freakonmic guys chapter on climate and then spewing the chapters content at Al Gore, it really shouldn’t have been a surprise. Jon managed to tie it up with the other made for TV scandal ACORN you tube videos!!! The horror. However to Jon’s credit he took sort of the middle comedy ground by stating true or not if liberals don’t want to flame conservative fears they have to not give them fuel. Good advice? It’s really hard if the burden of perfection includes not falling for hidden camera bits/ someone stealing your email and then using these out of context to frame you. Actually it’s impossible as in the birth certificate scandal where there is no fuel that is actually needed and any proof you show is simply ignored. It’s even a little more insulting where no burden of proof is high enough to damage the other side. Actual proof of torture, actual proof neglect in Katrina… Mike Dukakis can ’t be seen in public because of something Willy Horton did, yet Oliver North is on my TV and radio to tell me I’m unpatriotic? So excuse me if I ignore the Daily shows advice. Or more to point take the Daily shows advice from just a few weeks ago, where Wyatt Cenac demonstrated the impossibility of trying to live absolute moral purity. Will liberal groups make mistakes, yeah. Will conservatives blow these out of all context, yeah. Is there much we can do about it, Not really. I mean the bar is set so impossible low for a liberal scandal, you can’t live that pure.

Sox the cat mailing list was a huge scandal in the 1990s, the discovery of non-warranted wire tap of American citizens was a huge scandal in the 2000s. How do you win with those two as standard levels for what is considered a scandal?
