Taking to term "Pinhead" to another level
Sarah Palin Strikes New Ground as Keynote Speaker at International Bowl Expo 2010

Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) Welcomes Palin as Featured Guest at Bowling Industry's Premier International Convention

ARLINGTON, TX--(Marketwire - December 2, 2009) - The Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA), the bowling industry's leading trade association, announced today that the bowling industry rolled a strike, securing Sarah Palin as the keynote speaker at this summer's International Bowl Expo 2010.

"Sarah Palin is a great friend to the bowling industry and we're so proud and honored to welcome her as our keynote speaker at International Bowl Expo 2010," said Steven Johnson, executive director of the BPAA. "Regardless of your political affiliation, Ms. Palin is a force in American politics and culture. Her presence underscores the impact and importance of bowling, one of our country's leading national pastimes and a growing $10 billion industry."

The International Bowl Expo 2010 is to be held from June 27 to July 1 at the Las Vegas Hilton and Las Vegas Convention Center. Ms. Palin's keynote speech is to take place during the general session on the morning of June 30 at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Bowling is DECLINING.. as most other "pastime" activities. It's becoming too expensive, and bowling alleys are sinkholes of epic proportions, when it comes to operating expenses.

I am secretary/treasurer of two leagues that have been bowling together for 19 years, and the USBC (our governing organization) officials that I am in constant contact with say it's been in a steady decline for YEARS...

It's gotten too expensive for a lot of people..example:

we pay $20 a week for league fees.. there are sidepots @$3 a week, brackets @$5 a bracket..a large coke costs $3..fries or some other snack is also $3..

A couple can easily spend $65 a WEEK. many diehard bowlers bowl MORE than one league a week (many of ours bowl both Tues & Wed..so double it)

A winter league lasts for 33-37 weeks

Many of our longtime bowlers have gone to one a week, or none.. A few years back we were growing..(three seasons running, we had 40 teams of 5 on the tuesday and 30 teams of 5 on wednesday)

This fall we have 17 teams of 5 on wednesday and 14 teams of 5 on tuesday..

perhaps open bowling is increasing, but that;s not what supports bowling alleys.. They need to KNOW that every Tuesday at 7 they will have 200 + bowlers showing up...not a handful of stragglers who will pay 99cents a game, and may show up once a month...and those kids may also vandalize the bathrooms, or steal those ugly bowling shoes:)
