How much longer in Afghanistan?
Prediction thread.

How much longer will we have combat troops in Afghanistan?

My guess, at least through 2014.

1. 2019
Obama will likely win another term. The Democratic challenger will lose to a Republican who takes an anti-war stance, like Nixon. They will take their own shot escalating it, before it gets out of hand, then they will bring it to an end before the next election.

5. I thought we already were bankrupt and just waiting for the Chineese to move in
and take over. Oh wait, the US still has the big military to keep them out.

12. $een nothing yet.
Al-CIA-da's ultimate goal (to bankrupt US like they did the US-SR) is to see it skyrocket.

11. But we will be under GOP rule due to increased recruitment of al Qaeda throughout the world
Edited on Thu Dec-03-09 01:05 PM by ShortnFiery
Our continuous OCCUPATIONS will have set off attacks and the FRIGHTENED Americans will in 2010 and 2012 vote for republican WAR-hawk leaders (and will so for decades to come).

RESULT: Endless WAR and TERRORISM.

Mission Accomplished Corporate Centrist Democrats.

4. combat troops?
I thought we were pulling all of those out, and sending in the Just Trying To Lend a Helping Hand troops.

Not that those kind of troops, even if that were actually the case, would be seen as any less of an occupation force by most of the people in Afghanistan.

7. Permanent Bases. The US is like the Hotel California.
We can check out any time we like, but we never leave.

10. My guess is that if they don't end these wars before the 2012 elections, it
will be a big campaign issue then for the opposition. I'm having deja vu remembering how Eisenhower got elected with his promise of ending the Korean war.

14. Permanently
All military personnel are combat troops under a given set of circumstances. Therefore, as long as the military is present there are combat troops present IMO.
