Mine sniffing dogs are expensive to train and many get hurt. There is an alternative.
Paint "Palin Book Tour" on the side of a C-130 and wait until it is full of morons. Then fly it over to Afghanistan and plop a sign in the ground pointing at the mine fields.

Or is that a little too harsh?
