Poll question: What will you do support the war movement or an anti war movement |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-03-09 10:32 PM by EndersDame
just askin'
On edit : I personally dont support the escalation but have more respect for people who will sacrifice in some way (on either side) because the whole country should be engaged rather than just playing on the X box (like my brother) and not caring

1. I will post on the internet my support for the Afghanistan War |
|
in such a way as to inflame the anti-war people into such fits of response that I effectively neutralize them and remove them from actively showing opposition to the war.
Genius!

I think it's working beyond my wildest dreams. I also think 23 poll voters on this question overestimate how much they will actually protest this.

14. I am not overestimating anything, I have already been in three protests this week |
|
And I have at least four more protests that are already on my schedule for the next week, my hope is that the others who voted in the poll will also get out there and I think many of them will.

I just have no empathy for their deaths. There's a difference between apathy and celebration.

32. If you're going to pretend that supporting the war means I support every action or death |
|
that results, than the opposite is also true. If you support an immediate withdrawal, then you must, by your very logic, be in favor of the Taliban's blowing up of civilians in market, throwing acid in girls' faces for daring to attend school, shooting teachers in the back the of head, etc. etc. Surely you see how unfair it is for me to accuse you of such things.

I think I'll also rant that I have a bigger, badder conscience than anyone else, and accuse everyone who disagrees with me of being KKKorpr08 Mass-Turds who want to oppress me into silence.
But then again, I drink an awful lot of coffee for an 11-year-old girl. Fortunately, I'm a 51-year-old man.

8. I have already participated in three protests this week and have another one on Saturday |
|
One of those three protests was an unpermitted march through the streets of downtown Minneapolis in the midst of rush hour traffic. There was no designated parade route, we just turned on to any busy city street that we felt like turning on to. There were police everywhere, and every single person in that march risked arrest. I have already fought against this escalation and I am going to keep fighting, I hope to see other DUers in the streets with me.

10. I support President Obama's policy in Afghanistan... |
|
I am a retired veteran, having served 20 years.
I advocate the passage of a war tax, that will be required to pay as we go anytime the U.S. puts soldiers in the field.
I also advocate the passage of a draft with no exceptions. Conscientious objectors and those who are disabled can work in military hospitals caring for the wounded, or maintaining military facilities in the U.S. If we are going to war, everybody should have skin in the game, everybody should pay their share.
I advocate the end of the U.S. empire, removal of all military personnel from foreign bases. If we do not feel a need for a world wide imperial presence, wars will be fewer.
I gladly pay my users fees as a citizen of the United States. I have encourage and will encourage people to enlist. I've also explained why it isn't glorious or fun to fight in a war.
Having served in wartime, and seen first hand the ugliness of combat, I am anti-war.

And it doesn't make it any better when he says he is going to START pulling troops out in eighteen months but gives no clue as to how many months or years it will be before all of them are out.

the only way we can do it is from a position of strength. Adding 30,000 troops is a huge step towards that goal.

It's the worst recession since the Great Depression, unemployment is over 10%, and you think there's any other reason the volunteer Army met its quotas for the first time in 36 years? If that were true, they would not be accepting drop outs, foreigners, and criminals.

Any 8th grader should be able to get a GED.
You completely fail to acknowledge the truth: recruitment goals are only being met because people are so desperate to have any job. It isn't a statement regarding the willingness of gung ho war advocates suddenly deciding they would put their skin their mouth is.

make a damn bit of difference. Protests, letter writing, screeds and rants on the intertubes. Nothing will help. If you haven't noticed, all we are to them is the endless source of money and if they can't get what they need from us they will steal it from our children and grandchildren. There are very few in government right now actually looking out for the people of this country.
The only way things are ever going to change for the better is to start with campaign finance reform. Then reform lobbying. All the corporate money needs to be removed from politics. The government is supposed to be ours, you know by the people for the people. The government right now is nothing but a collection agent for the corporations. Steal from us, give it to them. Then they use it to build bigger better weapons and to make sure their new yacht has solid gold faucets.

What I will NOT do is let people like the threadstarter diminish my meager (as it may be) efforts as 'just posting on the internet'.
