Payrolls Fell Only 11,000 Last Month, Jobless Rate at 10%

U.S. employers cut a far fewer-than-expected 11,000 jobs in November, the smallest decline since the start of the recession in December 2007, government data showed on Friday, strongly suggesting the deterioration in the labor market was in its final stages.

The Labor Department said the unemployment rate fell to 10 percent from a 26-1/2 year high of 10.2 percent in October.

The government revised job losses for September and October to show 159,000 fewer jobs lost than previously reported.

Analysts polled by Reuters had expected non-farm payrolls to drop 130,000 last month and the unemployment rate to hold steady at 10.2 percent.

29. No - all the other economic metrics indicate the country came out of recession this summer
when the Bad Obama Stimulus Bill That Doesn't Work started pumping money into the economy.

GDP went from -6.4% in January to +2.4% in the 3rd quarter

Job losses have slowed dramitically

all leading economic indicators indicate recovery

unemployment has declined

what's to question?

(except for Obama of course)

But, to make light of the failure to bring regulation back to the process and to downplay the mistakes made in insuring accountability within the TARP program? Granted that started with Bush* and I would defend Obama on that score... Nonetheless, is that really what you meant to convey? It surprises me, if so....

It's at 17.2%, down from 17.5% last month, after seasonal adjustments & such.

Remember that U6 is the measure that includes "discouraged workers" "marginally attached persons" - all the folks who don't get counted in U3.

This is very good news.

You're gonna get that when the Civilian Labor Force (the basis for the U-3 unemployment rate) shrinks by 98000; the Labor Force Participation Rate shrinks; and Not in Labor Force increases by over 290,000. (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics)

IOW, people are being shuffled off the work roles and are no longer reflected in the unemployment figures.

any glimmer of hope that things might be turning around and the bitch squad will still bitch, bitch, bitch. There have been signs the last couple of months or so that the recession is ending. Yes, the recovery so far is weak, but this is also the worst downturn since the Great Depression and it will take time which some around here don't seem to understand. They think Obama with all he inherited could take a magic wand and make it better overnight.

Been waiting thirty years and through 2 useless re-trainings for that. The glimmer of hope somehow never makes it to those 55% at the bottom as Elizabeth Warren's numbers and studies prove.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/elizabeth-warren/america-without-a-middle_b_377829.html

The numbers do give the perpetually comfortable classes something to pat themselves on the back for. That's about it. Right now all it indicates is companies have downsized as much as possible, that has nothing to do with them hiring much less creating good paying jobs.

76. The rich will protect enough of the comfortable classes
and they in turn will continue to make sure the majority class of workers/wage slaves are laughed at and derided when vocally confronting the problem of the rich.

I'm sure they appreciate your diligence in mocking the real experiences and real concerns of the majority of working class americans.
Keep up the good work. :fistbump:

59. Does that mean....
That 90% of those who are eligible to work are working?

65. The thing is that next yeatr the jobs will come
By quarter 2, we should be close to 9% or under I think. One thing that can't be denied is that the unemployment situation is finally starting to improve.

67. Not much to crow about. And much of the true number is hidden.
The real number is more like 17 %, and is probably still growing, since so few new jobs are being created.

71. The December numbers will resolve this issue.
And believe me, I'd be very happy indeed to be wrong on this one.

74. Change: Make government statistics non-garbage.
No Change: Keep the joke statistics (GDP, Inflation,
Unemployment) as they are.

Another "No Change/Do Nothing" Fail for Obama.

I heard they have to add 100,000 plus jobs just to keep up
with the new people.

How about give some piddly amount ($20-$100/month) to the
"non-unemployed" unemployed just so they can be
counted accurately.
