1. Define "strong" public option.
This could mean about a million things.

9. If we pass something that is not real health care reform but is only insurance reform,
Edited on Fri Dec-04-09 05:34 PM by county worker
like I am hearing about now, we will be forced to buy insurance from the very corporations that are causing us the problems in the first place. The premiums will not be more affordable to those who already have a hard time paying for insurance now, yet they will get a penalty if they decide to eat and pay rent and buy gasoline instead of giving 10% if their income to crooks.

This is not anything that helps anyone. It is worse than the status quo. I'm not in favor of calling a turd health care reform just so we can say we got our way! Also this bill will cause us to lose seats in 2010 because of the disheartening effect it will have on the base.

13. Do you care what it costs ? Because that has a strong limiting effect on how much of it you get
How much you ACTUALLY get, that is. But if cost is no object to you then you're probably happy with the current arrangement.

11. Without a strong public option, it's just not going to reform anything
which is why the insurance companies are fighting it tooth and nail.

Now that turd Ben Nelson is going to screw 100% of the people in this country out of decent health insurance reform because he's determined to push 50% of them back into reproductive slave status.

To say I'm furious any of this is even up for discussion among Democrats is the understatement of the century.

Conservatives are our deadly enemies. The last 6 months should have convinced every single person in this country of that, but of course it didn't.

I really am just about ready to give up. Any fool in this country who voted for a conservative and especially for an anti abortion conservative deserves to be robbed blind by for profit insurance and neglected to death when they don't pay.

I have enough money to leave. Fucking idiots are not going to drag me down with them this time.

15. When was the last time it mattered in this country what the people were "willing" to do.
I think the people, meaning me and you, have little to do with what is being decided in DC today. Unless you're one of those corporations with your own person-hood.

Those were the last times large numbers of people were willing to cause real problems for the system. Since then, activism has mostly amounted to holding a parade.

19. I'm beyond caring. I'm just holding out for another year and a half
when I'm SUPPOSED to start getting Medicare.
I am self-employed, 63, and have a "preexisting condition" (who the hell doesn't?!) so even if I could get insurance, I couldn't afford it, and then would have to pay massive amounts on top of that to doctors peddling drugs that have been inadequately tested and would probably kill me quicker than no drugs at all. If I were lucky, I could end up in one of the class action lawsuits that would at least pay my burial expenses.

They can do whatever they want, it doesn't really involve me. I can only eat as healthily as I can, get a lot of exercise, and stay away from crowds carrying germs.

Why? Because abortion is legal and affordable, but without a public option it will be business (and profits) as usual for the insurance cos.

39. Uh, this "Public Option" crap *was* the compromise.
It was made right out of the gate, of course-- after our "representatives" took the only real solution-- single payer-- off the table. I'm only marginally interested in the compromise. Without even this watered down compromise item, I don't see why anyone should support it. Except insurance executives and their pet politicians, of course.

42. There are only two acceptable outcomes that could legitimately be called REFORM
The first is single payer. We all know what it is. We all know why it is the best solution, and sadly we all know why it's not happening.

The second is a TRUE public option which is open to all. This allows the criminal insurance industry to continue to exist (which is far more than they deserve) but also forces them to clean up their act, because nobody has to buy from them.

Anything short of that is NOT reform.

Mandatory corporate insurance is the OPPOSITE of reform (deform?) as it rewards the criminals for criminal behavior to the tune of 45 million new "customers" and billions of dollars.
