1. When I was a middle school English teacher, during Banned Books week, I always printed

the list of books currently banned and/or heavily challenged throughout the US and gave bonus points to students who read them and wrote a short report/essay on the book. I always told them that the banning of books itself should be banned and that people who want to censor books have a greater agenda than just your widdle precious eyes they are trying to control.

No parent ever bothered me on this.

edit: Here is a link to a list of books I would generally post. I usually got my list from the Librarians Association.

3. Animal Farm, one of the best books ever written
no surprise it also looks like it's the most censored/banned... although The Satanic Verses seems to have a pretty good claim on that title as well.

6. Don Quixote was never successfully banned by the Spanish Inquisition
It was so popular in Spain, forget about it. And though there was a ban for 250 years against exporting the novel to the New World, the French bootlegged it and so little is said about it today.

7. still have my button which reads, "I read banned books" on occasion (and believe me, I try NOT
to have such conversations, I talk with one of the idiots trying to ban books, and point out that I read in six languages, so, in which language do you plan to ban my reading? and also add that I was reading books in the second grade that they probably still can't comprehend.
