All pregnancies end. Whether you like the way they ended or not.
When sperm meets egg, the end result is either a miscarriage, a medical abortion, or a live birth. That's why you folks who insist that you "don't believe in abortion as birth control" crack me up.

Uh, sorry, but that's exactly what abortion is - the prevention of a birth.

And if a woman doesn't want to carry her pregnancy to term, for whatever reason, then her abortion is a medical necessity. Period.

1. If I want a heart transplant, then it is medically necessary. Period.

3. Um, no. Is your heart failing? And are you a good candidate for a transplant?:
Not the same comparison at all.

2. Just curious, does every sperm/egg meeting end up with fertilization?
I don't know these things :)

but I would have thought that every such encounter doesn't 'take'?

5. I think only it it implants in the uterine wall, or
mistakenly in the fallopian tube.

6. If sperm met the egg, and conception occurred,
I'd consider it yet another example of GawdTM demonstrating His capacity to to destroy millions of human lives in utero. But that's just me.

12. Not to mention all those other sperm who died...
those poor poor sperm. Women make an egg a month. Men send millions of their little critters to fertilize it and only one makes it...sometimes.

All those dead sperm. Those are lives lost. Those sperm had feelings. They were human beings that didn't survive. Damn the harsh brutality of it all.

Why don't the conservatives ever shed a tear for all those dead sperm?

Uh, I need sleep, desperately. Or maybe I'm onto something. We should make the conservatives go around and collect all the unused sperm and raise them if they care so fucking much about the unborn.

13. lol. Yes, when sperm and egg meet that is fertilization. And it occurs
normally in the uterus, and sometimes gawd messes up and fertilization occurs in the fallopian tube.

9. Nah, but when they do, some cells start multiplying.
A lot more times than people think, miscarriages happen before the woman ever even knows she is pregnant. Many women miscarry and know about it. Many actually have the babies. A few get abortions.

Out of those millions of sperm, it only takes one to fertilize an egg and it doesn't always "take." The rest of the sperm die.

10. Sometimes the egg flirts with the sperm for a little while
and then, with the help of God, squashes it like a bug.

15. Those poor poor sperm. Human lives lost.
We should go ahead with Operation Y and round up all the conservatives and make them collect the unused sperm and raise them. All those little lives lost because conservatives are so busy trying to control the egg that they let so many little lives end. They are such cruel bastards.

:P

4. Most pregnancies don't make it to birth.
Edited on Sat Dec-05-09 03:15 AM by avaistheone1
They are naturally aborted by a woman's body and the woman doesn't even know it because it is so early in the pregnancy.

17. True.
When I miscarried, my dr. told me that 1/5 of all pregnancies end in spontaneous abortion (the medical term for a miscarriage.)

18. We call it pro-choice - that implies a choice. Maybe we need to change the term pro-choice?

19. I assume one day the pregnancy can be removed without necessarily terminating it
Transferred into a surrogate or an artificial womb. Then the argument will be moot about the conflict between rights and life. But we aren't there yet.
