1. Thanks K and R ~ Did you see her Interview with Rachel regard |
|
the troop levels etc.? The video link was here at DU
It was amazing, just amazing. At the end of the interview Rachal, who is brilliant as well, seemed to have changed her tone a bit.

2. Was it ever posted here in GD? I saw it in the videos section. |
|
It should be posted in GD! And it seems to me that Maddow changed her tone very early in the discussion... But that was only because Maddow, like other cable talking heads, was focusing on entertainment. Madam Ambassador didn't find it funny.

5. Check this out...from the link I posted: |
|
"Ambassador Rice received her M.Phil (Master’s degree) and D.Phil. (Ph.D) in International Relations from New College, Oxford University, England, where she was a Rhodes Scholar. She was awarded the Chatham House-British International Studies Association Prize for the most distinguished doctoral dissertation in the United Kingdom in the field of International Relations. Ambassador Rice received her B.A. in History with honors from Stanford University where she graduated junior Phi Beta Kappa and was a Truman Scholar. Ambassador Rice is married and has two children."

6. Looks like she was undercut by her boss with the escalation. |
|
If she really means what she said about "peace".

10. The security council had a special meeting to deal with Honduras |
|
after Zelaya went into the Brazilian embassy. She had the gavel and she chose to limit the scope of the discussion to the matter of physically protecting the embassy building from golpista attacks -- which left the golpistas free to deploy gas, sound cannons and other kinds of harassments that didn't damage the embassy per se, let alone, free to continue their human rights violations all over the Honduran people.
That she did that was clearly a matter of carrying out policy so she can't be held solely responsible.

16. It's pretty inside baseball and the only link I can think of |
|
is a blog that would probably upset you.
I have to confess, I've no idea what this administration is up to in that region and I don't want to rain on your thread. :(

17. If it's a blog that refers to her as the Ice Queen, I've already seen it. |
|
It wouldn't upset me; it would make me laugh.

18. Yes, that was the link I was thinking of. I'm not a big fan of |
|
personal attacks but I also don't see very much that is funny in what our government just did to Honduras. YMMV.

19. That anger was misdirected, if indeed the order came from the |
|
secretary of state...a sexist personal attack of that kind is ludicrous in that case. (That's why I said I would laugh.) ;-)
I agree with you that what happened in Honduras is no laughing matter though and thank you for bringing it to my attention.

14. Interesting...from near the end of the (long) article: |
|
"Susan Rice, Clarke's co-worker on peacekeeping at the NSC, also feels that she has a debt to repay. "There was such a huge disconnect between the logic of each of the decisions we took along the way during the genocide and the moral consequences of the decisions taken collectively," Rice says. "I swore to myself that if I ever faced such a crisis again, I would come down on the side of dramatic action, going down in flames if that was required." Rice was subsequently appointed NSC Africa director and, later, assistant secretary of state for African affairs; she visited Rwanda several times and helped to launch a small program geared to train selected African armies so that they might be available to respond to the continent's next genocide. The American appetite for troop deployments in Africa had not improved."
