Pakistan Official: Bin Laden Not In Pakistan; Sends 30,000 troops to border
Edited on Sat Dec-05-09 01:24 PM by berni_mccoy
Both the UK and Pakistan are heavily involved and engaged in their effort to fight terrorism and rid the world of Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/bin-laden-not-in-our-country-says-pakistan-1833831.html

Yousuf Raza Gilani insisted his security forces had not been given any "actionable" intelligence about the al-Qa'ida leader's whereabouts and said he doubted whether bin Laden was even on Pakistani soil.

... He told journalists: "I doubt the information which you are giving is correct, because I don't think Osama bin Laden is in Pakistan."

...

He (spokesperson for PM Brown) insisted the meeting between the two leaders had been positive and amicable, adding that Britain and Pakistan were working closely to combat the terror threat.

"There is no division at all in what we are trying to achieve, which is bring to a conclusion the successful outcome of what we are trying to achieve in Afghanistan," he said. "We will not be able to achieve that if we don't work closely with Pakistan." He added Pakistan had sent 30,000 troops to the South Waziristan region to tackle militants, and the two countries were pooling intelligence and security information.
...
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Brown acknowledged Pakistan's "huge sacrifices" in the fight against terrorism and announced £50m in new funding for its border regions with Afghanistan.
...
"It is important that the Prime Minister has signalled, as he has done in recent months, the real importance Pakistan attaches to dealing with these problems. I can assure him of the UK's full support in this matter. This is your fight, but it is also Britain's fight."

2. I suspected that you wouldn't get much response on this.
The only discussion starters around here are the ones that are controversial.

3. Two things: one, as Jeremy Skahill said on Rachel last night, the fight is really in Pakistan
Second, Osama Bin Laden/Binladin is CIA. He's a convenient PR cover for the real war that is being fought against people/tribes that don't want to be under international control.

K & R anyway.

And thanks for a thread that is not about Sarah Palin or Tiger Woods.

5. You mean SCAHILL? And his opinion, is well, his opinion. He's not privy to Pakistani Intel
Yes, he does great investigative work, but that does not make him the official word on where OBL is. Pakistan could be wrong as well. If you read the article, you'd realize the UK disagrees with Pakistan on this. Pakistan is sending 30k troops to the region just to be sure.

6. I could never spell Irish names well. Better at Latino and Korean names. ;)
However, from what I have heard from other sources, Pakistan is the real theater of war.

8. I hear you on spelling. I do it too. But at least Pakistan is involved
in solving the problem. At least, they deserve credit for putting their troops behind their word.
