Why I love my credit union 100%. They charge me 8%, not 29%
By now it's a boring story you've heard before; my emergency backup credit card, citibank, upped the rate to 29%. Whether because I try to pay it off first, or just because they're greedy assholes and they can, who knows, but 29% is impossible for me.

My little tiny local credit union on the other hand keeps my rate at 8% even if I'm just a little late with the payment. I can talk to a person here, and they don't treat me like a germ.

Credit unions rock.

3. We keep our free checking account with BOA, just so we can non-service charged cash when traveling.
Everything else goes through a CU.

2. Credit Unions are awesome!
Alas, some of the consolidation among CUs has led to a disintegration of service and an increase in charges, even in that sector.

5. Couldn't agree with you more. And CU's are expanding access 'membership categories'
The one I belong to once was limited to State, County and Municipal employees. Now the list includes many non-profits, members of the local downtown business association, health care providers, etc.

9. If you owe nothing on it, close it and then get an increase on the one
at the credit union.

If you do owe something, see about getting a balance transfer to limit the effect of the loan sharks on your budget.

12. Power of the People- Credit Unions instead of Banks
Wish more people comprehended this.
If everyone moved their money on the same day,
we would be rid of the banksters forever.

13. Mine shows Fox News on all 4 televisions in the lobby
And they ignore my complaints about Fox, so I took my money and put it in a place that actually pays me interest for holding my money.

17. Fucking Pelosi-
They bail the banks out with OUR money-
the banks limit and reduce credit and she
urges a limit on what the credit unions can lend.

She just found a new land to terrorize with her
flying monkeys.

15. Mine charges 8.5%
The one month my credit card payment was late, the CU canceled the late fee when they checked the postmark and realized that it had been delayed it transit. They apologized for the mistake without even having to complain.

How many big banks would give you a break like that?
