Rick Warren: I'm In An Arranged Marriage
In a Christian Post article about an upcoming biography of Saddleback megachurch Pastor Rick Warren, we learn that Warren freely admits that when he married his wife, he didn't love her, was not attracted to her, and had "no feelings" for her at all. But he married her anyway because the marriage had been arranged. By God.
<snip>
Rick recalled the day when he was invited to speak at the church where Kay’s father was a pastor. As he ascended the steps to the stage to speak he looked over and recognized Kay, who was then dating his best friend, playing the piano. He said he heard God clearly tell him that this is who he will marry. At the time he had a hard time believing that because he didn’t love Kay and she was madly in love with his best friend. But still he kept the revelation in mind. After his best friend broke up with Kay, Rick asked her on a date. On their second date, Rick asked Kay to marry him. At the time, Kay didn’t love Rick but felt that God was leading her to say yes. She recalled hearing God say, “I’ll bring the feelings.”

Rick Warren gets to marry someone he doesn't love, doesn't even particularly care for - because God says that's what he should do. But he's got no problem at all interfering with the relationships of other people who are madly in love with the person they want to marry. I can't even begin to wrap my head around how fucked up that is.

http://joemygod.blogspot.com/2009/12/rick-warren-im-in-arranged-marriage.html

He's a deranged demagogue.

1. Lots of people marry and don't love each other
however, I think it wasn't god that said anything to him. I'd bet he saw an opportunity to get next to someone who could help his career and if he had to do it by marrying the guy's daughter, well then; so be it.

6. Bingo.
The best way to build a flock of sheep to shear is to marry the sheep herder's daughter.

Or, as Robert A. Heinlein wrote:

"Three ways to get rich... be born into it, work your way into it, or marry into it. Of the three, marrying into it is the easiest."

51. It wasn't his dick
It clearly says he had "no feelings" for her. Lust is a feeling, but there wasn't even that. Why not? My guess is he's either sexless or gay.

What got me was this:

"After his best friend broke up with Kay, Rick asked her on a date. On their second date, Rick asked Kay to marry him."

He swooped in when she was vulnerable, like any good sociopath.

12. What a sad life they lead
Everything is "pre-ordained" for them. God tells them what to do, when to do it and what to think. Or at least by their telling.

In their world there is no free will. Only servitude until they die. A whole life spent wasted on their knees and attending rituals in expensive palaces that ultimately do nothing to help humanity.

Sorry, but I feel nothing but pity for them.

20. I'm pretty sure (P)Rick Warren also heard God tell him to
hold a phony Q&A session before the election with Obama and McCain. God told Warren to lie to the world and say they had flipped a coin and that Obama would answer questions first while McCain waited in a "cone of silence." God told Warren to lie about the coin toss and the "cone of silence" so that McCain could listen to the questions in his limousine and pretend he was just naturally "sharp" and "on-the-ball" when answering tricky questions.

This is what God told Rick Warren, because God wanted John McCain to be president. However, Warren didn't realize that God wasn't powerful enough to win the election for McCain. In fact, God is an impotent little weasel whose ass could be easily kicked six ways to Sunday by the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Poor Mr. (P)Rick) Warren failed to realize this Holy truth.

34. Talk about transparent bullshit.
These religious con-men aren't even particularly good at it. But their flocks are dirt stupid and everyone else is obliged to accept this kind of bullshit when you slap God onto it.

What would we say if, say, a young Scientologist with ambitions of having his own church said he'd only married the daughter of a church leader because "Xenu told him to". Everyone would laugh, and rightly so. It's completely self-serving and transparent.

36. Yep
I can't help but think one of the reasons people like him are so adamantly opposed to same-sex marriage is they're in such fucked up sham marriages, (or because they got pregnant and the guy wouldn't marry them, e.g. Maggie Gallagher) and they loathe the idea of other people getting married because theywant to and because they genuinely love someone else. The notion that other couples might be happy would further highlight how miserable the Rick Warrens of the world are, and they simply can't stand for that.

The other day some DUer had a tizzy fit because I said these people think God tells them things via voices in the head. Well here it is. Teh crazy on display. That Mrs Warren, she must be feeling so very respected about now. "Married her anyway." So romantic! Such a sacrament they have there. Voices in the head guiding them as they attack their neighbors for having actual love. No wonder he is so bitter and greedy. Big hole to fill. Lots of head noise to cover up and cover for.
