Man injects wife with HIV-infected blood (his own)
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/980347/man-injects-wife-with-hiv-infected-blood

An HIV-positive man has infected his sleeping wife with the virus, which can cause AIDS, by pricking her with a sewing needle dipped in his own blood.

It's believed he wanted to give her the disease so she would start having sex with him again, the Sunday Star Times reported.

It's the first case of its kind in New Zealand. Other cases have seen HIV-positive people infect others through unprotected sex.

The man, 35, admitted infecting his wife, 33, and has been remanded in prison awaiting sentence for wilfully infecting another with a disease, an offence that carries a maximum 14 years' imprisonment. He is due to be sentenced in the Auckland High Court early next year.

The pair cannot be identified.

The man discovered he was HIV-positive during health checks imposed on them when the family arrived in New Zealand in 2004.

However, his wife and children were not. The woman said she wanted to maintain the relationship for the sake of the children.

Article has more.

What the flying hell is wrong with people? I suppose he can die all he wants, but to take her down the same route?! Scary stuff...

Prison is too good a place for that vermin.

2. She may not be infected.
AIDS does not affect everyone the same and if she gets early treatment she may live a long life.

3. Needle sticks carry an 0.3% infection rate
even when they're the hollow needles we use in the hospitals. That's three infections per thousand needle sticks from confirmed HIV patients.

The statistics are firmly on her side, although I do hope she's being covered with prophylactic antivirals in the meantime.

As for him, somebody needs to cut that thing off so he's not troubled by it any more.

4. The bad thing for her is that it takes 3 months or so for a test to detect the virus
Edited on Sat Dec-05-09 11:11 PM by mcablue
The mental pain and desperation she will suffer will be big, before she can find out whether she's infected or not, unfortunately. What a crazy man. He needs to be put in solitary confinement forever.

5. If she's getting antivirals, she'll most likely never seroconvert
because the statistics are that good.

My suggestion for him stands.

7. Correction
"An HIV-positive man has infected his sleeping wife with the virus, which can cause AIDS, by pricking her with a sewing needle dipped in his own blood."

Had she thought to seek immediate treatment, she would likely not have seroconverted.

However, that's so over the top I doubt it occurred to her until she got tested.

12. No, that was HIS story
It is ambiguous, but he said he pricked her with a sewing needle, however SHE said she saw him with a syringe full of blood on the day the prick appeared.

According to the article, she is HIV+. Which is why he faces the charges.

14. We had a case in Missouri where a father infected his son intentionally
He didn't want to pay child support so he stole some infected blood from the hospital he worked for and injected his infant son. The kid is a teenager now and is doing well. Dad is still in prison.

15. Thanks to the people who made up for those who un-rec'ed it.
Those who un-rec'ed it were clearly in support of the man and his dirty deed.
