3. No, it isn't. So, explain, because neither link went to "street level."
Edited on Sun Dec-06-09 07:09 AM by Behind the Aegis
I can understand not wanting to actually provide proof (pissing match in your mind).

Edit again...did your psychic powers also tell you about the other two who can't see the "glitch?"

4. And?
People don't use the word 'Palestine' for that area any more; they say 'Palestinian Territories'. And since there is a place in Texas that is called 'Palestine', it's found that as an exact match.

A bit disappointing it doesn't offer the Palestine just along the road from Over Wallop as an option, though:

9. i invite others to try it for themselves.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&output=html&hl=en&q=%22palestinian+territories%22

then click on the first link & see what they get.

then click on the next, etc.

then notice that googling "us," "usa," "america," "united states of america" all return the same results, a cornfield in the center of the country.

They will get:

Amazingly enough, they still won't get your "glitch," whatever that may be, as you have yet to tell anyone.

Edit to add:

Given the "war" about rec v unrec....

Edit...again...

For shits and giggles, let's hope they google "Korea." It's a gas! Oh why make them go there...

Oh, and the map...lands you right at the border of "Daniel Boone Forest." Who knew there was a Korean named 'Daniel Boone' and even has a forest named for him in the US! Another "glitch?!?!?!"

5. I'm not sure what the glitch is
Edited on Sun Dec-06-09 07:07 AM by JonLP24
I see a map of Israel and Texas with it the map focused on Palestine and you see Arlington in the upper right corner.

Edit/Actually even though above the map it says "Palestine, TX" I don't see it anywhere. Off topic my grandpa grew up in Groesbeck and for years had the daily newspaper from there delivered to him despite not living there anymore.

10. Here is some more interesting behavior
I saw what you intended me to see...

But then I did the following.

Google (map) Gaza : got Gaza.
Google (map) West Bank - got the West Bank.
Google (map) Bethlehem - got the one in the Mideast.
Google (map) Bethlehem,PA - got the one in PA.
Google (map) Bethlehem - got the one in PA.

Close window. Open new (but no cache flush).

Google (map) Bethlehem - got the one in PA.

Google seems to return results biased by your previous searches.

17. Don't use Google much?
Their search results are impacted by:

1) Advertising dollars
2) Prior searches

When a more generic search topic is selected, you will get more specific results (assuming no advertising is involved) in order of which links were selected by previous users.

Hardly anyone is going to go to Google Maps to look for a place that doesn't have defined geographical boundaries or political existence on the other side of the world... while people DO use it extensively for driving in the US. You are going to get the US location unless the international location is far better known (as in "Rome" over "Rome, NY")

24. Not a glitch at all.
Google is USA centric, especially if your IP address indicates you are in the USA. There is a Palestine in the USA, so it comes up with that if you only enter that word as a search term. If you enter Israel, it shows you that country, since there isn't really an Israel here in the USA.

Much ado about not much of anything, it seems to me, but thanks for generating my first post of this Sunday morning.
