Tonight Show writers threatening the White House?

I'm still scratching my head over a clip that aired on the Tonight Show on Friday. They showed the White House tree lighting ceremony with President Obama then they altered the clip to make it look like the tree toppled over and exploded.

BTW, I apologize to the people who can't access hulu but if I uploaded it on youtube, NBC would probably have it taken down within an hour.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I really don't get what other message they could be sending there. I'm still in shock.

I watched that several times but I still don't get what was funny about that. Can you explain what they were trying to convey in that clip?

I suppose they could have made the tree fall in a more realistic manner, but the general farcical nature of the piece...

I don't see any messages. Just a joke. At least it wasn't made to fall over Obama - then there'd be a genuine issue.

This is not a time for comedy. These are serious times akin to the Great Depression, WWII and the Civil War.

The real world is serious, not funny, and comedians have no place right now.

If they never made a joke about Obama at all, there really would be room to complain about favoritism from the media. It's a harmless joke and really about all they can do since Obama doesn't give them a lot of opportunity to make jokes.

There is a difference between being funny (http://tpmtv.talkingpointsmemo.com/?id=3544631&ref=mp), being critical and being threatening. Like I've said earlier I honestly do not get the humor of that clip, I'm still waiting for someone to explain it to me.

He specializes in doing stupid just for the sake of stupid - at about middle school (or perhaps frat boy) level. Apparently you've been lucky enough to have something to watch when he's been on. Why NBC thought he would be a good replacement for Leno is beyond me.

From your profile, you're probably a few years younger than me. I find Conan's content and style childish - and if your enjoyment has nothing to do with the content, he's the wrong gender for me to find enjoyable to watch :P .

At least I got information about current events from Leno - and although I didn't always find him funny at least until he paired up with John Melendez I rarely found him offensive.
