Republican senators making the case for single payer universal health insurance? |
|
Edited on Sun Dec-06-09 03:09 PM by Cleita
Anybody been listening to these arguments made by the Republican side? In their efforts to shoot this health care bill down they are pointing out all the reasons that this health care bill written by the health industry lobby isn't workable. Among the arguments, 96 percent coverage is not universal health care...cutting Medicare to fund expanded coverage in the exchanges cheats senior citizens...guaranteeing benefits does not guarantee health care providers for the benefits if the reimbursement rate is too low by putting all those extra people on Medicaid...it's going to cost trillions over the years and run the country into bankruptcy, etc., etc., etc..
 Alice, I think I have stepped through the looking glass with you into bizarro right wing world. If you want comprehensive health insurance that covers everyone 100% for all basic health care, fix Medicare along the lines of HR 676 for full coverage and a sensible way to pay for it and extend Medicare to all. Medicare is already operational and a transition to a bigger program would run more smoothly than trying to set up a byzantine health exchanges system from scratch. It could be put into effect in less that six months not another four years. Oh, yes, and make it illegal for insurance to sell basic health care.

1. You're right. Single payer universal is the only system that will work. |

8. Yep. It's weird or experimental or untested. It's the world standard. |
|
That's why I opposed the current bill. It's completely the wrong direction, giving more power to insurance companies instead of outlawing them.

3. Every Argument The Republican Senators Make |
|
leads to the benefit of single payer insurance. Now if the Dems would only stress the morality of single payer, I wonder what argument the Repubs could use?

7. We must insist on a vote on Sanders single payer amendment. |
|
It wasn't voted on this weekend as promised, and won't be voted on tomorrow.
This gives us more time to lobby our Senators in favor of it, but that only matters, obviously, if they keep their word and bring it to the floor. Two tollfree numbers are available for the purpose: 866-220-0044 and 800-828-0498.

10. It gets better. Senator Grassley of Iowa |
|
talking about how a public option will lead to single payer (the horrors!) and everyone will be forced on it. There won't be any choice because the health insurers will go out of business! THIS IS FROM A GUY WHO IS OBVIOUSLY ON MEDICARE, that single payer government health insurance that we must all fear!
