In closed-door negotiations Sunday, Democrats on both sides of the issue who were assigned by Sen. Reid to find a compromise were exploring an alternative that would empower the government's Office of Personnel Management to run a new national health plan, congressional aides said. The office already oversees the federal employee health plan, and administration officials pointed to it as an example of how the government can successfully run a health-insurance program.

Under the proposal, the office would negotiate terms of the plan with private insurers, and contract with nonprofit entities set up by the private sector to run the program, aides said. One senior Democratic Senate aide suggested the idea is now the "leading proposal" among Democrats.

A public option is government employees selling government insurance.

This proposal is a scam.

2. We had that with the Blues
many years ago. They said they couldn't compete with private insurance which is why they were allowed to go for profit if they wanted to.

Now they say the solution is to duplicate what they already said wouldn't work???

Idiots.

11. This is nothing new. It's called "Kaiser".
And it blows. They make you go to their facility for everything. Mine is all the way across town -- easily an hour train ride each way. :grr: :banghead:
