Since when does it cost $4.95 to change your address?!?!? |
|
I am moving by the end of the month and started doing all the paperwork changes today. The bank, Driver's license, car insurance etc.
No problems anywhere until I visit usps.com/umove. There I am charged roughly five bucks to change my address and am also inundated with a host of advertisements for everything from magazine subscriptions to a list of sex offenders in the area of my new address. Cable internet and television as well as alarm systems were also in the mix.
Ummmm......
WTF!!!!!!!!!
Since when does the post office charge to change your address?
In a 20 month period, back in my youth, I moved from Colorado to New York to Michigan then back to New York then to Ohio and finally back to Colorado. (most was schooling related) I never paid a dime to change my address back then. I know the post office is losing money but I don't like this charge. It seems like they would be grateful if we helped them keep their records straight. I honestly have little to no use at all for snail mail and kinda wish it would all just stop.
Anyways, that is my rant for the day. Or at least for the hour. Thank you for your time and have a nice day. Gonna go change my address to my old school now that I am thinking about it, I hope they don't charge me for it.

Especially be careful if you did the change of address online.
I recently did that, and after 6 weeks not one scrap of mail had showed up at the new McMansion (LOL, as if).
After an inordinate amount of digging, I finally got the phone number for the old P.O. branch that was supposed to be forwarding, and the clerk laughed and laughed when I told her I had made the change of address online. "A bad idea" she said, chuckling merrily away...

3. They don't charge. That is an extra service (IIRC) that notifies all your magazine |
|
subscriptions and creditors that you have moved. I'm sure you can find the basic (free) update form.
